I have an Intel DR31PG motherboard. It has 4 SATA ports numbered, 0,1,2,3. I am using 3 hard drives. Ports 1 and 3 recognize the connected drives. Ports 0 and 2 will not recognize any drive plugged into them. I have already updated the BIOS for the board. Am i missing something?

Check your BIOS. It may have some setting for enabling/disabling SATA ports or using them as RAID ports.

Never seen or heard anything like that before - BIOS complaining of ports not being installed.

Could be a problem with the board.

Non-subscribers do not have facilities to attach files, they can only be small files anyway. Most people use a file hosting website (Photobucket?).

Read through your motherboard manual. Some m/b models don't have all the features installed of other models in the series. The next model "up" may have all 4 ports installed. [Edit: Although they do not usually have the physical connectors (headers) still attached.]
