    Hi,

(My username is a comment to the people who set the username rules, but don't tell newcomers what the rules are. I struggled to register!)

So, to work. I have just added Vista (ultimate, I think) to one PC on my home network, There are 2 other PCs whic run XP Pro SP3. All are Dell Optiplex GX260 or 280. They are linked via a hub using straight cables, and the hardware is fine. All connect via the hub to a (wireless) router and all are receicing internet from the router.

The Vista PC can see the others, and can access & manipulate the shared files on them. The Xp machines can only see each other, and can manipulate the shared files only on each other.

Is this normal? I searched the previous questions on the BBS but could not find any relevent questions.

I ran again the "Set up a Home or small Office Network" wizard on both XP PC's and re-started them. The Vista PC ran a similar wizard, and was also re-started. All 3 PC's have the same workgroup name and different PC names.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers, that is very useful.

Actually, after checking, I had been hoodwinked by the wizards. My workgroup name had not been entered in the right place on the Vista PC.

I was misled that I could see files on the other PC's even though they were in a different workgroup!

The Vista wizard is very different, and so far not as helpful as the XP version. You guys, though, are very helpful.

    Thanks. I'm sorted.
