New user. I have 500GB hard disk. How do I know if my hard disk is SATA? How does it matter? Thanks.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Open the case...SATA drives have small cabels - IDE drives have the wide gray ribbon cable.

Not sure why you're asking "How does it matter?" Guess it depends on what you're needing to do?

Thanks for reply. Yes, width of this cable is much less than that of my earlier desk top. By second question (how does it matter) I actually wanted to learn benefits of SATA over IDE hard disk. Thanks again.
