I attempted to use reg clean but it seemed to do some strange things with my internet explorer. I get this internet explore script error message when I attempt to log into any program on my computer Internet explore script error Line 123 char 4 code 0 urc file/C:/windows/web/folder.htt. Is there a way to deactivate this error message so it doesn't keep coming up? I will eventually deal with the other issues.

    Two ideas
    Try turning off active desktop.
Or, try going to start, run and entering:

    regsvr32 webvw.dll

    You can try the following:

Open IE and select Tools>Internet Options>Advanced

    Uncheck "Use smooth scrolling ".

    Nope.

I tried the suggestions you diazy and also plansdown but for some reason they won't work It said dl register succeeded though. I guess file corruption is what is causing this problem I would assume. Do have any other suggestions?

    Hi Stormbridger
Try this: Click Start|Run, type in

    regsvr32 webvw.dll

and press [Enter]. Then do it once more but this time type in

    regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll

Reboot and then let us know if it worked.

    Not yet

Hey thanks guys for staying with me on this. It didn't work. I saw the text appear to reset after I rebooted, but there error message appeared after it. I am speculating way beyond my skill level but I was wondering if reg clean might not have moved that particular line of programming that creates that error code out of the internet systems program and into whatever systems program controls the opening of files (?) Not sure if that would help to create a solution but just speculating. Thanks again for the help.

Regclean shouldn't have altered that. Regclean creates a file named UNDO[date & time].reg in the folder it resides in when it fixes errors. By double clicking that file, what was removed will be merged back into the registry.
Or, you could try renaming the file Folder.htt to Older.htt, and see if the error goes away.
Code 0 usually means the operation completed successfully. I can't fathom why you are seeing this.

    Virus issue

Did what you suggested it readded to registry but did not solve the problem.
You know I really think this is worm or virus that was attached to reg clean program. Just curious does anyone know of a virus that attacks microsoft programs only possibly through the reqistry or drivers and that can mask itself from a follow up detection by mcaffee a shot in dark I know but I am persuing all avenues?

You can use approximately the same fix for 98. Slight variation however.
Start->run->sfc. Take the extract one file option, enter "folder.htt" and
tell SFC to put it in c:\windows\web

Note that as "damaged" can include "infected with malicious script
code that is going to be able to do whatever it likes in local HD
security zone ", I'd be inclined to ditch Web View alltogether.

Shouldn't be needed. I'd deffo kill Web View in that case.

    SFC Recovery

I ran the SFC test and found mulitple areas where the registry is corrupted. I have factory added microsoft Windows 98 programs rather than disk. I was wondering if there was an original copy of my microsoft registry saved on my hard drive that I can use with SFC. since the systems are factory installed or would I have to go out and buy a copy of windows 98 in order to correct the registry using this SFC feature.

The SFC program does not check the registry. It checks the system files. It will replace them for you. Since you mentioned factory installed windows, I am betting you have a folder named C:\Windows\Options\Cabs which can be found in Windows Explorer. This folder should have the windows setup files in it. Run the System File Checker again, when prompted to replace the file, browse to this folder at the Restore From window, and it will extract them for you. Choose to save the old file when prompted to do so.

Your registry is checked at every bootup. If there was something wrong with it, you would have received a message at startup. A previously saved copy would have been selected to use and you would have been told to restart the computer to use this working registry. Unless, you have disabled the scanregw.exe entry in the Msconfig program. It is enabled by default. You have 5 copies of your registry, not to be confused with the system files or setup files.
