I recently updated to the newer version of firefox and now it doesn't ask me if I would like to restore my previous session or start a new one when I open it. Before the update, whenever I closed firefox with multiple tabs and I went to go re-open it, it would say this:

"Your last firefox session closed unexpectedly. You can restore the tabs and windows from your previous session, or start a new sessions if you think the problem was related to a page you were viewing. "

Then I would have the option on restoring the session or starting a new one. I know that this also happens when firefox crashes unexpectedly, but before the update, it would also ask that when I go to open firefox after I had closed it with multiple tabs. But now it doesn't do that anymore. I no there's an option to warn me when I'm closing multiple tabs, and that when you do that you have the option of it saving your tabs, or just quiting. I don't want that. I want to have the option of restoring my previous session or not, and not being made to.:confused:

So could someone help me?

Hi tears0fshad0w...Welcome to WindowsBBS...I hope you enjoy your stay here... :)

I'm going to assume that when you said you recently updated to the newer version of Firefox you updated to 3.05. I believe what you want is in "Options "...
- Open Firefox 3.05
- Click on "Tools" then select "Options" from the menu
- On the "Main" section under "Startup" section change the "When Firefox starts:" from the default "Show my home page" to "Show my windows and tabs from the last time "

You could also download and install the "Tab Mix Plus" FF add-on and one of the options under the "Tab Features" tab is "Enable undo close tabs ". You have another options for the "Maximum number of closed tabs to remember ". The default is 10 but you can increase that number.

No that isn't what I wanted. That's just the same thing as the "warn me when I close multiple tabs" thing after you have them save your tabs. I want that message that I put in the first part of this thread to show up. So I can have the option of restoring my previous session, or start a new one and not have the decision made for me.

see if this helps:
Type about:config in the address bar and press enter. Firefox displays a warning message to make you cautious about editing the config values. Once you agree, it lists all configuration parameters used by Firefox, which are editable. Now filter for browser.warnOnQuit and double click (toggle) on it to change the boolean value to true. True means the warning window will be displayed when quitting the browser.

It will have option of "save and quit "

Opps sorry om reread I see this is not what your looking for.

Are you sure you had this as a startup option without some sort of add-on? I know this option makes sense on a crash and is defaulted for this (provided homepage is set to blank or specific site). Having this as option after choosing a previous shutdown of "save and quit" is rather redundant. Got to admit I'm curious though, I will keep looking.

The option to warn when closing multiple tabs, does exist in the Firefox3.0.5 in Tools|Options|Tab. The box is not checked by default, though, and would not help in case of an unexpected crash, which gives the message shown above.
However, if you prefer to open with last session, rather than with the Home Page, there is a dropdown to make that choice in Tools|Options|Main|Startup section. Show the home page is the default setting.

I found out that it was a bug on previous versions of firefox. I guess firefox didn't know whether or not it was crashing when you closed it down with multiple tabs. So I think the bug was fixed because a lot of people were complaining about it. But I actually liked the bug. I liked having the option of restoring my previous session or starting a new one on start up. My friend has and older version, probably like 3.03 or something, and it still asks her that. So I think I'm just gunna ask her if I can install her's on mine.

But what do you mean by this, "and is defaulted for this (provided homepage is set to blank or specific site)" and this, Having this as option after choosing a previous shutdown of "save and quit" is rather redundant "?

Hello tears0fshad0w,

I meant....

Made a mistake on my part. Due to fragmented brain-fry, I lost train of thought and mixed the statement by stating that a crash of firefox would only offer "session restore" after a crash if blank or homepage is set.

I should have said, Offering a "new" or "session restore" is the crash default regardless. The blank or set homepage is the needed recipe for a "save and quit" or "quit" option if more than one tab is open.

Having a redundant or what many would consider a "nuisance nag" option of choosing a firefox startup to "open previous session or a new" after already having made that decision and set the option to "save and quit" on the previous close, would leave many saying to themselves: "Why stop and ask me that now? If I didn't want to to restore my previous session I wouldn't have set this while closing you before. Stop nagging me and open the way I told you to "!

define redundant:
1] Exceeding what is necessary or natural; superfluous.

I have 3.0.5, and I have been asked if I wanted to restore the session the one time when I crashed. I had three tabs. Why the differences? I have no idea
