Quicken 2009 is no longer compatible with windows 98se machines. Do not desire to purchase a new machine. The 98se machine,I own, is fully operational. What other options may I have? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

Well the obvious response is stick with whichever version of Quicken that is compatible - I guess you have one?

For my part I continue to use Quicken 2000 on my XP computers with no issues.

Is there any particular reason that you want Quicken 2009? My guess is that very little of today's software is compatible with W98SE - you could check out MS Money, but I expect you will hit the same issue.

I'm not sure you have many options. One option would be to get a copy of Windows XP & upgrade from 98. Depends if your hardware is compatible.

98 has seen End Of Life since July 2006, so you will not find any new software being written for it.

Appreciate your reply Arie and PeteC.

On April 30, 2009 Online Services and live technical support for Quicken 2006,which I own, will no longer be available. Requires the purchase of Quicken 2009.

To update 98se to Xp is beyond my paygrade !!!!!

Perhaps I'm caught between a rock and a hard place??

Windows 7 machine shall resolve the issue. Hopefully, availability is just around the corner?

Thanks. Go out and make it a great day.

Well, and upgrade to XP might be quite a bit cheaper than buying a new computer

Windows 7 is definitely not just around the corner. If the development/testing goes well we might see Windows 7 by the end of this year.

teehee, I'm still using Quicken 4 on my XP box. It was a freebie which came bundled with something way back in ... who knows '94?.

I've not tried it yet, but I suspect Vista will not like it.

If Vista kicks it out, I'll scrape it and go with Microsoft's Accounting package cause I hate Quicken with a passion.

Well that just means that you'd have to pay for LIVE support. Everything you need to know about Quicken is in the Quicken Help program. In my 11 years of using computers, I've never had to use live tech support for a software program, I just read the fine manual.
