I downloaded Sandboxie a year or so ago but have never really used it or spent any time learning to use it. The concept of running a program that is run in an isolated environment sounds ideal. I did run a program within Sandboxie the other day but wasn't really sure what I was doing.

Based on your question, I just went back to the Sandboxie site and took a quick look at a tutorial that is available. It looked like an excellent guide and I plan to go through the tutorial so I will be able to figure out when, where, and how to use it to full advantage. If I am able to add anything to this thread before it gets to old, I will post back.

    Hawk,

Shortly after my post, I tried to use the Tutorial. Following the instructions resulted in a number of popups and started one new web page after another to open - each one wanting me to agree to the McAfee Site Advisor EULA. (I do use the Site Advisor). When I would click "accept ", another would appear with the same message. It got so bad I finally uninstalled Sandboxie. After the uninstall and before a recommended Restart, my machine crashed. After I restarted my machine, Internet Explorer crashes when I try to open it. I am posting this using Firefox right now.

So - my experience went from no opinion to very negative in a few short minutes. Now I have to go to work on my IE problem.

Later Edit - I rebooted and my IE is back in operation.

sorry to hear about that, I have not encountered any problems yet, but have not done any serious testing neither.
I have run a few programs sandboxed and I have also been running my browsers sandboxed by right clicking on the icon and selecting "Run Sandboxed "
Now I would not be game enough (or stupid) to go to a XXX site to test whether I could catch a virus or not.
    Regards
