    Hi,
I need help in networking a desktop Dell XPS system to a Dell laptop Vista system.
I want the laptop to be able to print/manipulate files on the desktop system. (the printer is connected to the desktop via USB)
    WIRELESSLY:
The desktop can see and open files on the laptop.
The laptop can SEE the desktop, but will not open files or print.
I get an error on the laptop saying I might not have permissions and it will not connect, but, it does "see" them on the network.
    MShome
    same login/pw
same error on laptop if firewalls are on or off on both.
Printer and file sharing is on with both pcs.
    I am admin on both.
I believe this has to do with permissions not being set correctly on the XP system, but, I don't know how to fix those.
I also use Network Magic and neither pc is tracked as an intruder.
Dell even remoted into my pc to try to see if they could help and they couldn't understand why it doesn't work.
    HELP!

    Okay.

Log in as Administrator on your Dekstop.

Open Windows Explorer->Tools->Folder Options->View. Scroll Down in Advanced Settings to Use Simple File Sharing [Recommended]. Uncheck it if its checked.

    Press Apply & Ok.

Now for the long steps. Don't worry they look long but are not :).

In the Windows Explorer right click a directory which you want to share with laptop. Choose Properties->Sharing->Share this folder. Give it a name. Click Permissions->Add->Advanced->Find Now->Choose Network from the list. Press Ok->Ok. If you want to give full control of the folder (writing/deleting etc.) check the box "Full Control ". Press Apply.

Now choose Security Tab->Add->Advanced->Find Now->Choose Network from the list. Press Ok. In Security Tab you would now see the Permissions for Network. Choose appropriate permissions [full control/write etc.] If you want to give same permission to folders/files within folders choose Advanced->Select Network & click BOTH the boxes at the bottom of the screen. Press Apply & Yes on the popup. Click ok & ok to get out. Now try it from your laptop.
