I have 4 computers in the network. Three can get online, the 4th cannot.

Two of the machines are identical, one is online the other is not

I can ping the router and/or Google from a cmd prompt and get 4 replies.

    I've done a winsock reset and a TCP/IP reset

I'm at a loss here as to where to go next and would welcome any thoughts from the community.

    Thanks in advance

Checking the setting for Tools> Internet Options>Connections.
Check that the "Never Dial a Connection" is checked.
Select Advanced Options button. In most cases all three boxes should be blank.

Check the setting for the machine that does not work vs the machine that does work. If you can ping, you have a connection to the net. Therfore in must be a setting in the browser.

    Thanks for the reply.

"Never Dial a Connection" is not checked.
Advanced Options button. = no such button
    LAN Settings = nothing checked

Nothing different between the two machines that I have found

    Do this.
    Open ie window.
    Enter 209.131.36.158 in address bar.

If you end up at yahoo then go back to network tc/ip properties. Set DNS settings same as the machine that works.

A minor brainwave came over me and I cloned the working HDD onto the HDD in the suspect machine and everything works fine now

Should have thought of that hours ago

    Thanks for the suggestions

BTW...I should have said "LAN Settings" button instead of Advanced. Sorry. Glad you got it though.
