I am running XP and have had an ADSL connection for nearly a year now, and after a few teething problems it settled down to be fine.
Recently, sometimes once a week, I lose my connection - this seems to happen a few times on the day in question and not again for a week or so. The problem seems to be with the PC end of the connection, trying the "Repair" connection function has no effect however, restarting the PC gets me back to status quo.
This is not a major problem and I can live with it but I would be interested in trying to solve the problem if anyone can make any suggestions
Oh! And a Happy New Year!
It happened again today and it looked like it was an ethernet problem my end but I unplugged the modem for half hour or so, rebooted the PC and fired up the modem and lo and behold we are om stream again.
Conclusion, it must be my ISP (France Telecom) not the most reliable, who are messing me about.
Just a note to others to give the ISP time to get their act together before jumping to conclusions. I just wonder if there is any way of checking if the problem is my or their end?

When you lose the connections - are the lights on the modem on or off?

When you lose connection, are you activly using the pc or was it sitting idle?

The lights on the modem are on and it usually when navigating a web site (can be any one) that the connection drops. Usually I can get back on by re-booting.
I had both PC and Modem powered down and off line for 5 hours today after having crashed 5 times in succession. But since powering up this evening, I have been able to get on line and download Kaspersky scan (after 5 aborted attempts) and, at the moment everything seems OK (after 2 hours) touch wood!
I bought a spare Ethernet card today just in case.

    Intermittent Internet connection 2

The problem, which started a week or so ago now definitely appears to be a software one, probably a malware corruption of TCP/IP.
Afetr a re-boot I have connectivity for a while. Running the windows "Repair" utility the message is " windows is unable to repair" see your network manager ".
Running netsh winsock reset, I can connect for a while. Running ipconfig release, empties IP numbers to zero but running ipconfig renew seems to have no effect. WinsockXPfix.exe also gets a few minutes of connection after reboot.
It seems that after reboot a valid IP address exists but this seems to disappear after a few minutes.
As I am still to obtain a stable connection all the time by Wifi link with my laptop but this is slower and less convenient, and able to get limited connectivity on my PC which makes me think that my Etehrnet link is OK, I can only conclude a software probvlem.
Any suggestions or help would be gratefully received.

Running Ubuntu Linux on the same machine reveals exactly the same problem. I seem to be able to do things like reading emails but trying to update drivers, run Kaspersky scans or download files means that I lose connectivity after about 30 seconds.

    .
The situation now seems to be deteriorating. Lost internet access this morning with a message Launcher.exe has a problem, debug or close, after doing either I was still unable to get connection software to run. In an attempte to circumvent the problem, I tried to Uninstall usung uninstall software app. but it just froze. Running Revo uninstaller seemed to do the job. Tried re-installing softyware but would not complete the installatiuon (froze).
There seem to be about 45 files/folders labelledl "Launcher" dated from 2006 to current.
I am appending a Debug txt file if this is any use
Fortunately I can still access internet wifi with my laptop.

    TIA

Can YOU make any sense out of all that info:eek:

    launcher.exe (Launcher) - Details
    http://www.auditmypc.com/process/launcher.asp

Launcher is likely spyware and as such, presents a serious vulnerability which should be fixed immediately! Delaying the removal of launcher.exe may cause serious harm to your system and will likely cause a number of problems, such as slow performance, loss of data or leaking private information.

launcher.exe is considered to be a security risk, not only because Adware Removal programs flag Launcher as Adware, but also because there can be privacy issues associated with this product.

    Thanks Steve,

No, the logfile means nothing to me but I thought that it might mean someting and be useful to the WBBS team in helping to resolve my problem.
The "Auditmypc" link sort of confirms what I am thinking but doesn't seem to provide any guidance on getting rid of it.
Incidentally, the problem seems to be spreading, even though I have run "System restore" I now cannot get a folder content listing and a message flashes up almost subliminally saying "Volume in C: Drive has no label ".
So my PC is virtually unusable at the moment
