I put in a new WinFast motherboard in my XP-Home. Now everything boots up ok, but the sequence stops for me to hit the F1 key. How can I bypass that so the boot up goes all the way thru?

    rsinfo,

It comes at the start of bootup.

The first screen says at the top:

"CMOS checksum error default loaded "

and at the bottom of the screen it says:

"Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter Setup "

(the rest of the screen is blank)

Once you press F1 it just goes on its merry way and shows the Windows-XP screen etc.

There's no problem, it's just a nuisance as I'm used to bootup going straight thru to load the desktop

Seems something is corrupting your BIOS.

Could be the battery. Better return your m/b for servicing/replacement.

Sure sounds like a CMOS battery problem. Is the battery new, if not replace it. If it is new with the MB check to see if it is installed correctly, rightside up etc.

Just to check, if you swapped the CPU from the old motherboard to the new one, did you replace the thermal compound carefully between it and the heatsink? Have you checked the temperature readouts (there should be a menu in the BIOS).

It wants you to go into the BIOS (F1), probably because it cannot run a setting that it has.
I expect it is trying to run some sort of "Optimum Settings ", it can't, so it uses "default ".

In the BIOS, look for something like "Setup Defaults ", use that. If there is something like "Optimum Settings" you can try using that when the system is running stably.

Read in the motherboard manual about Clearing the CMOS. It may need to have the CMOS cleared so that it can detect the CPU correctly.

When I have come across Checksum error, it was not a big problem, but unless you use F1, it won't go away.

I think it needs you to correct a setting. Maybe the CPU is not being detected correctly.

    Thanks guys,

My computer guru just left and among other things he went into setup and disabled the display of the Large Logo ( "WinFax ") which also got rid of the pause for F1. Now everything boots straight thru.

Make a note of the setting, my bet is that you will need it in future :) Glad to hear it is overcome.
