I'm using a laptop while wintering in Florida therefore I have to use my web based email service which is Charter. I love using Firefox for the past year but have run across something that I'm not happy with and I think it's Firefox related. I looked on their forums and couldn't find this fix. I hope someone can help me. I can't copy/paste any links in emails I compose. If I forward or reply to an email then I can c/p a link. Any idea why it won't work in compose? It's pretty frustrating. I had no problems on the home pc and I was using Outlook for my mail. I don't think it's using the web based service that is causing this problem. If I'm wrong...tell me! PLEASE HELP!

And why does that stupid Java screen come up before the box opens? It sometimes freezes and I have to wait 5 or 10 minutes for things to settle down before I can use it. GRRRR.

Also, I''m curious why, when I open an attachment, Firefox opens a box and asks me what program I want to use? I can choose pretty much any program with no problem except anything that comes in as a PPS. I have to save the file before I can open those. Too weird. Was just wondering about that one.

    Thanks.

    :)

    Panda,

You poor baby, having to Winter in Florida! Gee, my heart goes out to you, as you aren't enjoying all the freezing rain, sleet, snow, and miserable weather! :D

I have to tell you that I use Charter's Web Mail portal when I am at my daughter's home, and I have yet to experience what you are describing. I have Fx 3.0.5 installed. I just used web mail, and did copy/paste several links in a message, and sent it to myself. Everything arrived as composed...

Do you have JavaScript enabled inTools | Options | Content ? You really don't need Java enabled, but you do need JavaScript. I get no Java Screen at all...

To be able to open an attachment in Firefox, you must first associate the file type with your program. Go to a file type, e.g., PPS on your HDD. Right click, and select: Open With
, then Select whatever program you want to use for opening the file type.

Thank you, Ramona, for answering! I thought I was doomed! It's bad enough I have to put with this heat and watch my friends and family freeze in Michigan, but everyone ignoring me???! LOL.

Just did a test. I unchecked JAVA and when I tried to compose there wasn't a subject box to type in. I have to have JAVA enabled to use my mail, apparently? Could this be a Charter problem?

I know how to open a file but for some reason FF gives me a hard time opening a PPS. All others are no problem. The proper file type is listed in the list that FF pops up for me. So. Am I missing something else here?

Thanks again for your input and maybe we can get this fixed soon.

    :)

    .
It is no problem for Ramona, who, also, uses Charter. It is irrelevant that I have no problem with Cox Webmail, since you have another provider. The point is that you use Webmail, and, as such you need a browser, so you can't compare with Outlook which is a Mail program. You should see what happens if you try to use Internet Explorer.

    Panda,

JavaScript not Java... Do you have the latest version of Fx installed?

Try this: If you have the IE Tab installed, see if you have problems composing when using the add-on.

See if THIS and THIS helps with your PPS files.

Will be leaving soon, and won't be around much more during the Christmas Holiday.

westside....Thanks for the tip. I understand about the mail program versus webmail. Didn't really think that was the problem, but then you never know in this crazy cyber world. Didn't think to try IE. I just did. Same problem. I can only C/P in reply mode. Still not sure what to do. I have the latest FF installed and up to date on all add-ons. Not sure where to go from here.

ramona...You are confusing me on the Java. I have both checked in FF. I uncheck just plain JAVA and I don't get my box to type in. I check it again then uncheck JAVASCRIPT and nothing happens when I click the compose button. Not sure what is happening. As for the JAVA, I may not have explained right how that worked. Anytime I click reply, forward or compose a new window opens and the JAVA.com logo comes up, flashes, then the compose box opens. Sometimes the JAVA logo freezes and I have to redo it a few times to get the box to open. Does this make more sense than previously stated?

    So. Now what?

    :)

    Hi Panda...

I am a Firefox fan through and through but for my work Webmail I have to use IE...Firefox just does not render it correctly. Just a thought.

EDIT: Sorry...missed that you already tried IE... DOH!

We could try ruling out a unknown conflict with Charter Web view. Try creating a new email account with Google's Gmail.com (webview). If you can C/P at author level we can rule out (?) problem caused by your computer and /or Firefox. If no change, then we may have a system/Java/Firefox issue. ... you can then use that new Gmail account for junk email account.

Sorry took so long to get back.

I have an Excite email account. Forgot I had that one. Just tried a c/p and it worked! So, are we saying it really could be a Charter issue? Will have to contact them now and see what's going on. Thanks for the tips.

Ok. This is it. After talking to Charter I finally got a confirmation on what the problem could be. It's JAVA! Instead of trying to contact them I decided to activate my Outlook on the laptop and now I can do my copy/paste to my hearts content. :D I tried to find a help place on JAVA but just couldn't find it. I figured at this point it was just easier to open Outlook and now I have more options to play with that I am used to. I will just have to figure out how to get my mail off the laptop and onto the home PC in May when I go back home. Thanks for all your help out there. One day I may take the time to research JAVA and see what the problem was and how to fix it.

    :)

    Hi Panda...
Do you have Outlook on the home PC? If you do then can "export" the mail from the Outlook on your Laptop to a *.pst file. Then copy the *.pst file to a USB Memory Stick or burn it to a CD\DVD. Transfer the *.pst file from the CD\DVD or USB stick to your home PC then using Outlook you "import" the *.pst file data into Outlook.
