    We are using a GE Smart Connection Center that takes the cable signal from the modem to the router and then to a GE 8 port 10/100 ethernet switch and then to the home outlets. Everything was fine and then because I had more devices than outlets, connected a HP printer and another computer to an Intellinet 5 port switch. Again, everything is working fine ... until I go and try to plug in another computer at a non-used outlet somewhere else in the home. I am unable to get an IP address. If I disconnect (pull power) the Intellinet switch then I can get the computer working even when I reconnect the power to the switch ... but if I restart the computer ... problem reoccurs. What am I doing wrong?

    modem --> 5 port router (one connection used) --> 8 port switch --> house (7 outlets) [-(?)-> Intellinet 5 port switch --> 2 devices]

    Which port are you using on the Intellinet switch? The cable from the wall should go into #1 port.

    Try connecting the intellinet switch into the router.

    The Intellinet 523301 Switch Port #1 does receive the wall cable. I will try connecting the switch directly to the router as ReggieB suggests and will let you know if that works.

    The problem still continues with the swithes connected to the router separately as ReggieB suggested.

    When I try to connect another computer this is the errror message I am ALWAYS getting unless I pull power on the Intellinet 523301 switch which will then allow the device to connect to the network even if the new device is connected to the other switch, The error messsage:
    IP Configuration
    192.168.0.100 in use by 00:1e:0b:05:24:35, DHCP Server 192.168.0.1

    00:1e:0b:05:24:35 is the mac address of a device or computer on the network. Access the router control panel via a Web browser and view the Status > Client Table and see which has that mac address. The table should show all comps and devices along with their respective mac addresses.

    The router may also have a setting in the DHCP section where you can enter the # of dhcp addresses to be used. Most routers' default setting is 50 DHCP users, but yours may be set to one less than you need to have and the DHCP server can't do anything but throw out the "address already in use" message.

    Also, in your original setup:

    modem --> 5 port router (one connection used) --> 8 port switch --> house (7 outlets) [-(?)-> Intellinet 5 port switch --> 2 devices]

    is the switch connected to the router's UPlink port? (port 4 on a 4 port router, port 5 on a 5 port router, port 8 on an 8 port router, etc.)

    BTW, what brand 5 port router is it? I've only seen 4, 8 & above, never saw a 5.

    And in original setup, the house outlet you want to use w/ the Intellinet must be connected to the 8 port switch's uplink port.

    You are right the router is a four port D-link router. Before connecting the switches to the router directly, the 5-port switch was connected to port 1 of the 8 port switch.

    The router sees only two devices connected while three are actually on the network. It sees both computers but apparently, does not 'see' the HPCP1510 LaserJet. The address conflict is the MAC address of the HP printer. I found that via the HP ToolBox software. So .. how do I get the router to see it and end these conflicts?

    Simpler solution would be to set the printers IP address statically to 192.168.0.50. (Mask 255.255.255.0. Leave the gateway blank unless you NEED to access the printer from outside your network.)

    Then I was chasing down a blind alley. I suggest you put the switches back to how they were as that would be the best arrangement for internal traffic.....

    ... and set the printer IP address statically at 192.168.0.50

    I have used the Intellinet switches on numerous occasions and never had any trouble out of them.

    I think you will find the problem elsewhere. More than likely the DHCP scope is too small or there is a cabling issue.
