Windows XP will now not allow any new programs to install. I put this on yesterday and was told it was not a windows problem. well now it will not let even Adobe install or any new games.
I should add that the PC was bunged up so i reformatted the hard drive and now a lot of software will not reinstall. this is soft ware that was on it before the formatting.
i made sure i was logged in as administrator and disabled widnows fire wall. still no good.
    Anyone got any idea's?:(

What happens/doesn't happen when you try to install something? Are you getting some sort of error?

Please be sure to include which programs are delivering which error(s) or message(s).

Do a search for NMIindex.exe on your hard drive and see what folder it is in.
This may shed some clues as to what it is.
also, you mentioned this is a fresh install.
Was Windows installed from an Manufacturer disk, OEM disk, or a Retail Windows disk?

    Hello abithell,

I don't know if or when you'll be back to this post but I am including this to help others who may be experiencing the same problem with Nero or more precisely the indexing service that the "nero scout" api does. This indexing can be stopped. See: (*Note* While I don't use or need "nero scout functions" you may wish to google "nero scout" as a topic and study up to see if you wish to maintain and use this component of nero. You can tame or control this by other means within the program itself.)

this method will only stop indexing
    http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/Nero-Scout-Review-66113.shtml
Use this command to remove Nero Scout from your computer.

don't want to install NeroScout or How to remove it ...
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/f3/nero-7-dont-want-install-neroscout-how-remove-154953/
    >click "START" then click "RUN" and type this exactly or simply copy and paste:
    regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll "

*Note* your path to this file may vary, (mine did). I had to do a file search for MediaLibraryNSE.dll and note the path, then use the path I found. Mine was:
    regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\nero\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll "

    >After doing this proceed to services and disable the nmindexing service.

------not enough? Here's what google says:
