Ok, im at the brink of giving up after 9 1/2 hours of messing with this thing.

heres a little background: I reformatted my Windows XP sp2 and installed windows xp with sp 3 eveything went fine graphics, internet, etc but audio is dead ive tried every possible driver out therefor my motherboard "a MSI P6N SLI "

my device manager states the PCI DEVICE is missing drivers.... ive tried to find the proper drivers for it but to no avail I have turned to you all lol.

Im willing to bet the onboard sound is dead it should be the nforce 650i if i remember correctly but any other ways of making sure before i get a new MB or SC would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

To clearify - did you install the chipset and related drivers off the cd that came with the mobo?

Have you enabled on board sound in the BIOS, if nothing works try a sound card this will give you an idea if it is your on board sound. Sound card is cheaper than a new mobo.

    Problem solved -

After much research on other forums and other issues with audio i discovered numerous posts "just google SP3 audio issues" and basicly it states SP3 has a issue with onboard sound and either disables it or is unable to locate it i reinstalled win xp with Sp2 and sound works perfectly now!

so if your having audio issues with sp3 try going back to sp2.
