Recently I have had trouble navigating through websites because I keep getiing an error message when I try to move around a site. Example: I log onto a site and try to click on FAQ or help and when I first move the mouse there, on the bottom left of my browser it says something like-javasript:pop ('/login/help.php',450,750) when i depress the mouse, then when I release, I get "error on page" message.
I am using IE version 6.0, my security settings have always been set to default and like I said, this is a new problem, for the last couple weeks.
Any ideas? Anything that has javascript on it, same problem.
    Thanks, Greg

    Hi biggathome
Any chance you're running Norton SystemWorks?

    reply to Daizy

Geez, I wish it was that simple. No, Daizy, I'm not running it right now. I have it, but haven't installed it yet. When I go to Tools, then internet optinons, everything is set to default settings. I have tried messing with some of the settings, but still have the problem, so went back to defaults.

Just so we're on the same page? When you go up to tools..then internet options.....then advanced tab.....do you have it set to display a notification about every script error...under "browsing "?

    Hi biggathome
Yes, I do have msn messenger, but if we do that, others won't be able to solve their errors, as there will be no record of it on here.
Are you getting these errors on every page you visit?

Gotcha! Yes, I get the error message anytime there is javascript
involved. Yesterday I installed the latest Java download and it has not made any difference.

What the heck happened to Abraxas?? :(

Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - Disable Script Debugging.

Can you give us the full error message?

I'm right here! Just thought you guys were doing fine.

The reason I asked about the internet connection was a shot in the dark. It seems, for a reason unknown to me, that some people have had luck fixing the j-script by adjusting their connection parameters.

It is a wild suggestion, but couldn't hurt.
    Download and run this program:
    http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
Choose the DSL option at the top and the Optimal Settings option at the bottom. Apply. Restart, and cross your fingers.

If that doesn't help, and all your security and privacy settings are set at default, then try reinstalling IE6 (I wouldn't suggest this if you didn't have DSL since it is a large download and may not help!):
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q318378

The scripting engine for Win2k (probably the same as XP's) is here:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/winscript56/Install/5.6/NT5/EN-US/scripten.exe

If that doesn't help, be sure to get the IE6 service pack:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

You might actually want to try these things in the reverse order that I have presented them. How's this for a "shotgun" approach?

Do you have Netscape installed by any chance? The majority of posts about this problem mention that Netscape 4 is also having the same errors, or that they are not having problems with Opera or Netscape 6. I'm wondering if there is a connection.

    Abraxas-Didn't work

Hello Abraxas, I tried that download and it did not help. Actually, I just dowloaded IE's lateset stuff a couple days aga oand also downloaded the latest Netscape. Same problem on both.
Here's the deal- I have built a website using an outfit called Usight. I'm having problems with the site and when on log on to my Ubuilder site, I cannot pull up anything that has javascript on it. Putting the mouse arrow on FAQ then pushing down on the mouse and from the left bottom of mybrowserhere's what I see: first, a sheet of paper with a yellow exclamation point on it, then the following:javasript: pop ('/login/faq.php',450,750). Then when I release the mouse, I get the sheet with the exc. point and "Error on page" That's it.
Let me throw something else into the mix, I get emails from Dell and when I try to go to their site, I get the old "page cannot be displayed" message. Same thing when I try to go to Paypal. I am wondering if the two problems are related:confused:

    script debugging

Hi Daizy, I tried it both with that enabled and disabled, no difference:( :(
I'm thinking a suitable application of high explosives may be my next option:p
Seriously, I appreciate the ideas you have tossed my way, and you too, Abraxas.
I may have to take my CPU in to someone to get this figured out, don't want to, but I need everything functioning properly, and soon.

It looks like others with a similar problem have used a registry cleaner and damaged the registry.
If you have used such an animal, all I have left to suggest is to see if it contains a backup that would allow you to return the removed registry keys.

If you have Windows ME or newer, you could try restoring an older version of the registry with scanreg.

Short of that, you may be in for a format and reinstall.

Note (for future reference): If you are using XP, it does not ordinarily make a backup of the registry. This program contains 2, actually. One compresses the registry without messing it up, and the other allows you to make a backup of your NT/2k/XP registry:

Hello Abraxas, I am using Win 98. About 3 months ago I had to do a reinstall after something got in and I couldn't get back into Windows. My computer came with a reinstall disc. Think I sould try that again?
