Sorry haven't been able to find the answer in search but here's my question.
I have an elderly but reliable Dell Latitude running XP SP2 with just i USB port which is USB 1. I have an unused PCMCIA port and wonder whether, if i buy a PCMCIA to USB2 adapter, it will give me USB 2. I have been told that unless the motherboard is USB2 capable this will not work so I decided to come tu the fount of all knowledge..

Best wishes for health, wealth and prosperity in 1999 to all on WindowsBBS

Hi bg9208, USB2 drivers are contained in SP2, IMHO I would go for a USB2 PCI card (if a free port is available) most of them will give you 5 additional USB ports 1 internal on the card and 4 external.
You can pick one up for just a few dollars much more versatile than a adapter and probably cheaper too.

Since a Dell Latitude is a Laptop, he won't have PCI slots available. Yes, buying a PCMCIA card with USB 2.0 will give you 2 USB 2.0 ports. I've done that myself on an old Latitude.
