I seem to have a multitude of problems with my computer. Windows Installer is not working correctly therefore I cannot download some program files...for example: Word Press Blog download...computer tells me there is a problem with the installer. My Nero software suddenly stopped working and I cannot reinstall it. I have gotten the message that dll files are missing several times. I have tried a system restore but that function is not working either. The blue screen has appeared on occasion telling me that software or hardware has a problem and then does a physical dump. I have checked everthing and cannot find a problem with any of my programs or hardware.
I did a registry scan with Uniblue that showed several hundred errors. My question is: Is it safe to let Uniblue fix the registry and will it help resolve the problems.
    Thanks for your help.

Hi Colleen. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

You shouldn't let any registry cleaning program clean your registry because chances are it will just make your problem worse. Are you running Windows XP Service Pack 3? Try downloading and installing the latest version of Windows Installer, http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/wininstallnt.html. If that doesn't resolve your problem then download and run dial a fix from here, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html. Extract the contents of the folder and run the program. When it opens remove any restrictive policies if it finds any. Check the checkboxes that say Fix Windows Installer. When those are checked click Go and let dial a fix run. Let me know what the outcome is. :)

    Hi Evan, Thank You.
I tried the things you suggested and nothing has changed. I am running XP Service Pack 3. The message I am recieving is: Application or DLL F\Windows\System32\Olepro32.dll Not a Valid Windows Image.
    Thanks,
    Colleen

    Hi Arie,
I did as you suggested and was prompted to insert my XP CD to extract the dll files. After I inserted the CD I didn't know what option to select....I don't want to select the wrong thing and lose all my files. I would do a back up CD but my Nero is not working which is one of the problems I am having.
    Thanks,
    Colleen

What option where you prompted for? SFC should run after you insert the CD (if I remember correctly).

I went back to the SFC link you sent. It didn't say to insert my XP CD before I started, however, it does say the prompt to insert your CD may come up and there is a way to avoid that. It still involves copying the 1386 folder from the CD to my HDD and then you have to let windows know where the folder is by going to the Registry Editor and what to do there. It sounds a bit complicated and scary to me. It might be safer to just install a new HDD and start over. LOL.

Well, you don't have to do that. If SFC prompts you to insert your CD just follow the prompts & allow it to copy files it wants.

Sorry if I seem a little dense on this. When I insert my XP CD I am not sure what to select other than to choose Install XP. If I remember correctly when that option is selected it will give me choices other than doing an installation such as a "repair ". I just don't want to wipe out my HDD by not selecting the right thing.
    Thanks
    Colleen

When you put the Windows XP CD in the drive don't install XP. Close out the Setup Window that appears. Now run sfc /scannow with the CD in the drive. If SFC needs a file it will find it on the CD.
