I created a restore point & did the uninstall on the kernel audio splitter, system audio device, wave audio mixer, winmm wdm audio compatibility driver. still no sound. Several kernels still show code 45. I noted in the device manager listing (pfmmodnt) had a (!). This controls the non plug and play drivers and I could not get it to start- it gave me a error-system cannot find the file specified. these are the kernels that show error 45,
kernel gs wavetable synthesizer, audio splitter, drm auto descrambler, dls synthesizer, acoustic eco canceller. I have my midi, volume control back but still no sound.

    Hi again,

Could you confirm the spelling of that pfmmodnt device driver, and are you running any creative labs hardware?

Also, can you go back into device manager and list exactly what is in Sound, video and game controllers, any device with an ! or ? mark and anything listed inside unknown devices.

Give me time on this 69buicknut57 because I've received conflicting information from your posts so far (not your fault) and would like a little more time to look at this.

    To wildfire,
Sorry wildfire but here I am butting again with a few questions of curiosity on my part. If you get tired of this or have a plan that I may be gumming up, just let me know and I will try to use more patience and butt out till you fix it or cry uncle....:)

    To 69buicknut57,
When you said you've reinstalled your audio card drivers, where did you get the drivers and what method did you use to uninstall\reinstall these?

If audio card is truly soundwave 7.1 by siig:
This may come in handy somewhere down the road:

Did you ever have or try to install drivers for soundblaster all in one or soundblaster live? pfmodnt ( < note the single m) is related to this sound card.

ok here we go, yes it is pfmodnt, i do show one ceative audio pci (es1371,es1373) (wdm). I show one audio device on high definition audio bus with a red X on it. also show mpu-401 compatible midi device with a red x on it also. The sound card came with a cd with the drivers for the soundwave 7.1. i unstalled this with the cd as it showed in the directions. It said to stop the wizard and let the disc install it by itself. Thank you both for the help. 69buicknut57

    Hi again 69buicknut57,

I'll assume your thanks is in advance and the problem still exists ;)

Also I still haven't had time to look up your motherboard so not sure but if you have onboard sound please enter BIOS setup and disable this (I'll give instructions if needed when I have time), then go back to device management (showing hidden devices) and remove/uninstall all sound card drivers. After you've done so reboot and if your sound still does not work follow the following instructions...

We may already have tried a few of those steps but best to try from scratch. I'll have more time over the weekend to assist ;)
