When an email is forwarded to me, the text is blank unless I change the display options to gray background in Thunderbird 2.0.0.19, or if I click and highlight the blank portion of the page where the text is.

    How can I fix this?

Does it happen with mail from everyone or just one person that might have some funky setting on their end?

Intermittent emails. The only common factor I see are the emails are either "forwarded" and/or "replied" to.

Not sure where the display is selected. In Options|Tools|Display I have set the color of the text to black (default), and background to some sort of orange-brown, for HTML messages. I have made no changes to Plain Text settings.
The other setting of View|Display attachments inline is chacked. If not checked, if there is no accompanying message the page is blank, but there is an attachment in the upper right box.

Yes, that is that is what we have the options set also. And just like you did, I changed the background to another color besides the default white, (gray) and I can see the text of the emails.

These are text emails, not html. The only thing visible within these mysterious emails are links, i.e. username@someserver.com or http://someserver.com. Everything else is invisible unless we highlight it or change background color.

I am a bit perplexed by this. I had changed the background to a different color even before TB ever came out, and carry on this practice since the early Netscape6/7 and Mozilla days. But, I changed to white, and the message was sent with white background, I got it in white. These were, messages in HTML format. If the message was written on a different background, I got them in that background. There was some difference if I chose to View the message in Plain Text. In no case, I had a content problem.
I think that I did all the checks.
