Hi, recently when I click shut down it gets to "windows is shutting down" and it hangs. How ever if I reboot and shut down again it usually shuts down ok. The only thing I have added recently is a web cam. Thanks

If you let it sit for fifteen minutes or more does it evently shutdown?

Does the hang happen only when the new web cam is plugged int?

Hi, I've let the pc sit for a while and it never shuts down. I never tried to shut down with the cam plugged in. Thanks for the tip. I'll try it and get back to you.

Try running a disk clean up and defragging. I usually defrag multiple times, until I can run through the defrag (120GB) in less than 5 minutes.

Steve, it hung even with the cam unplugged. Thanks iBooger, I have defragged and used disk clean. I will repeat the defrag and see what happens.

I had also a problem with the shut down of the Vista OS. I am not quite sure if it was a incompateblity clash between Zonealarm security suite and Norton 360 or only because of the Norton 360. In any case, I un-installed Norton and now the shut down work fine. From this forum and the window bbs i read that norton products are often the culprit despite being quoted as compatible with vista

I will uninstall the web cam which upon installing it the problem started. I see if the issue goes away. Just that I need the cam for work.

I got the Microsoft vx 3000 web cam, but even for that one I needed to update the drivers. Maybe you could check into that, on the web site of the webcam maufacturer.

    Hi,
I looked at both cams (Microsoft vx 3000) and the (Logitech S 5500) at Future Shop. I will go to the website and look for the latest drivers, Thanks a lot.

There was no new drivers at Logitech's website that were helpful. I uninstalled then reinstalled the cam software to see if it made any difference. It did'nt. :(
