When cold starting the computer, it goes through all the checks just fine with no beeps but hangs right before the windows start. However, if I have the XP disc in the drive, the computer accesses it just for a second then starts Windows. Even at the black "Windows" screen during bootup, I can then take the disk out and the computer runs flawlessly until such time as I would have to have completely turn it off...it does wake just fine from standby mode. It seems like a file may be missing on the HD that the disk has for booting up.

This is a new machine, Intel DX48BT2 mobo, (2) 2gig Patriot 12800 modules, Q9550 processor, EVGA 280GTX Video card and a WD Caviar Blue 500gig HD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I'm out of town this week but will certainly give the suggestions from "bob" a try when I get back on Friday. Thanks for the quick response!

Ran the fix mbr command in the repair console and that didn't solve the problem. However, found some other info on this site and tried putting 2.02v to my 1600 mhz ram and upped the bus speed to 400 mhz and that did the trick. The auto configure in the bios didn't set the ram properly and thus it wasn't passing the post before the Windows bootup.

Good to go now. Kudo to this forum!
