    I can't download Adobe Flash Player. When I click on the download button for the Flash Player it just goes back to the page where I clicked on the download button. When I try to use a game or something that requires a Flash Player, it tells me I need to download one. I am at a loss as to what to do.

    Last time someone asked this question, Welshjim said:
    "To use FlashPlayer or even to download it, you need to give IE permission to run ActiveX controls. Click IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Custom Level. Under "Run ActiveX controls or plugins" check either Enable or Prompt (then Apply|OK). In the latter case you will always be asked whether you wish ActiveX to run if the site uses ActiveX. Much of the time, it will not make any noticeable difference whether you say Yes or No, but it does for FlashPlayer and MS Windows Update, for example. "

    Does that help?

    Instead of downloading & installing it directly in IE, first download installer file onto your hard disk & then install it with Administrator rights.

    Hi! I also am having trouble downloading Flash Player. Like Juanita, it keeps going back to the download page. I set my Internet options as listed above, and even tried downloading from the FileHippo address listed earlier in this thread. When I did this, I got a 403.1 Forbidden error. I can't find anything in firewall/antivirus/etc. settings that would suddenly prevent me from downloading stuff.

    Hi shotzel. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

    Thats strange as to why adobe flash player doesn't install. Have you tried shutting down all other backround programs that are running in the system tray in the taskbar and then try to install flash player? Are you using a user account that has administrator rights? Are you using the built in administrator account or your own account that you created to be an administrator? The reason I am asking is maybe your account doesn't have complete access to your folders and files. What operating system and what version of internet explorer are you using? Try logging into the built in administrator account and then try to install flash player.

    A quick shot in the dark....do you use spybot and if so do you have immunize enabled? (if so disable or turn it off)

    see:
    http://malektips.com/spybot_search_and_destroy_0005.html

    If not make sure ie is using default security settings. If security is set to high or customized this could also be a problem.

    Thanks, Ann and Evan!

    I have Spybot but don't use Immunize. As far as I can tell my IE settings are at default level. I have full admin rights. My brother made this computer and set me up as Adminstrator. How do you shut down the stuff in the registry?

    Sorry. I posted a few minutes ago and forgot to answer your question about my specs. My OS is XP and my browser is IE 7.

    okay?????

    If one way doesn't work let's try another:

    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Macromedia-Flash-Player-Download-24146.html
    click on the us link for IE or if fire fox is your preference.... I'm sure you can figure it out.....:)

    Please read carefully and make note of this:
    Due to security features in the Adobe Flash Player ActiveX Control, you must first remove all existing installations of Flash Player from your Windows system before installing prerelease versions of the Flash Player 10 ActiveX Control. So have you uninstalled previous or exisiting version of flash?
    This may help: ( it's the uninstaller as supplied and suggested by adobe)

    Sue, try this, http://troublenotes.com/pc-solutions/reset-your-hosts-file.html. It could be the host file that is blocking you from downloading flash player. If you reset it, it could solve your problem. Also try starting Internet Explorer with no addons enabled and then see if you can download flash player. (Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer no-addons)

    Fought with one of these a couple nights ago. :mad:

    First uninstall Flash Player via Add/Remove programs.
    Open Internet Options and select Settings>View Objects in the Temporary Internet Files section (Browsing history in IE7).
    Remove anything related to Flash.

    In IE6, select the Programs tab and click Reset Web Settings.
    It is not necessary to reset the homepage.

    In IE7, select the Advanced tab then click the Reset button in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings section.

    Close all open browsers then reopen and navigate back to the Adobe Flash Player installation and try again.

    Hello shotzel,

    If Noahdfear's advice still leaves you with that dreaded 403 problem:

    While this link refers to 403 errors while using microsoft update site, much of the advice (not all) may still apply to your particular problem. Notice the list of causes and the section entitled "Disable Security, Download Assistant, or Web Accelerator Software ":

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245142

    Microsoft has verified that the types of software programs in the following list contribute to "Unauthorized" or "Access Denied/Forbidden" errors. Disable any third party software that fits a description in the following list:

    * Ad Removal programs
    * Web Accelerators
    * Download Assistants
    * Security software such as "At Guard" or "NetZip "
    * Antivirus Software
    And I might add
    *Firewalls,
    *and the host file as mentioned by Evan

    ----------------------------
    On a slightly different note and out of curiosity, are you having any other odd problems such as running taskmanager, regedit, virus software updates?

    Hello,

    My husband took our CPU over to a buddy who is an IT person. He found a couple things in the security settings in our Internet protection that I missed that disabled Java. They fixed it, and now we have Flash! Thanks for your help.
