For the last couple of days a W2K3 server has been dropping network connections and refusing reconnects. There are no indications in the event logs as to why. Displaying the services shows the Computer Browser and Server services have stopped. Eleven other auto startup services of a cats and dogs variety have also stopped. e. g. Auto Update, Crypto Svcs, Help and Support, Task Scheduler... No rhyme or reason to the stopping.

It happens several times a day. In every case, just before the services stopping and refusing network connections, the Application Experience Lookup Service startup preceeded the failures.

This problem started after applying the MS December monthlies and the emergency Explorer fix, MS08-078.

Attempting to map a network drive to the server results in: "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: The specified network name is no longer available. "

    Anyone have any ideas?

First thing I'd do is set the start up of "Application Experience Lookup Service" to disabled and see if that cures the problem. Then you can concentrating on first finding out if you need that service and then, if you do, working out how to fix it.

    Response to Ricep3

I disabled AE Lookup Svc and rebooted. It has not happened since (24 hours), and I have observed no ill effects on the box without the service running. Note that I could not stop the service even with admin rights, but I had to disable and reboot to get rid of it.
