    Hi
Just wondering if the SP1 update is actually necessary. It keeps failing to download on my laptop - both automatically & standalone versions cut out at about 21%. I can't remember the error message I keep getting but I think it ended 0007?? Anyways, I've tried alsorts of 'fixes' that are via the MS main site and nothing seems to work.

SO - is it REALLY necessary and/or are there any ideas of what might be causing this??

Guess you'd have to define necessary;)
It'd also help to post the exact error message since it can probably be "googled" to help find a solution.

In General, Yes, Service Packs are consider a must do....

Look for updated drivers at the motherboard/system manufacturer's website.

STILL nothing! Have stopped windows update service, deleted temp update files, renamed the download.old files etc etc. It starts uploading - I see 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8% upload. Then it gets stuck for ages on 8%. Then it skips to 21% - sticks again and then fails - error code STILL same - 80070002

have even tried disabling the Mcafee firewall - then the download sticks at 0% for ages before skipping to 21% and failing again

There's no attempts to restart the computer - it just keeps failing!

I'm going to try ringing them tomorrow - it'll be quicker than trying to follow emails with a time-delay if it's not GMT

Hi guys - thanks for the tips but it is now sorted - via a phone call to MS.

I had to go into msconfig - set it to open up in selective start up (load system services)
then go into 'services' and hide & disable all MS services.

    I then uploaded 947821 followed by 936330 and MIRACLE - it's worked!!!!

    MUCH RELIEF!!!
