Was not sure if this belonged in networking, or in the XP specific forum, but here goes.

I have two Vista desktops and a Vista laptop operating on a home network -- printer sharing, file sharing, etc., no problem.

However, when I fired up my old Dell XP Pro desktop in the basement and tried to access files on my Vista desktop, it asked me for a username and password.

I can see all the computers from the XP unit.

Password protected sharing is turned off on the Vista desktop. The other Vista units access the files just fine.

Sooo ... with reference to XP, what is the default username and password for logging onto the Vista unit?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rick

It's asking for the Your user name and password setup on the Vista machine.

Steve, thanks. I tried that and it did not log in.

'Course I could have hit a wrong key. I'll take another stab at it.

The user name may need to be in the form:

    comp_name\user_name

Where comp_name is the name of the PC you are connect to, and user_name is a user name on that PC. That user will need a password.
