    Zander was right...

I did what he said and it worked fine in DOS.

I have Win98 installed on the new drive now and it's working great.

Only issue I have now is getting my internet working. I remember back in the day, when I got cable internet. A guy came over and placed a folder on my C: folder. I still have it on the old drive.

Could it be some files needed to get Win98 working with cable internet? I have a router installed. It's worked in the past, but isn't working now on that PC.

Have you tried the internet connection wizard? Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications

On the first page, select the bottom line, then go throught the wizard.

Nothing seemed to work in the Internet Wizard. I went through it, but no luck.

BTW, the communications tab only has phone dialer and dial up networking.

I did notice my PC was looking for drivers for 3-4 things.

PCI Card drivers. I believe I don't have any discs or software for them. Is there software needed for the cable PCI card?

    Harry,

Yes your network card ( "cable PCI card ") probably needs drivers as well as others.

You've already got your hands dirty changing the hard drive ;)

Would you be happy removing those PCI cards and taking some details?

Remove them one at a time and return them to the same slots. When you take them out look for any identifying features FCC numbers are good but failing that manufaturer names/model numbers chipsets etc.

Post your findings here and we'll try to get appropriate drivers for you.

Alrighty.. got my hands nice and dusty! :D

I have 2 cards on the PCI slots.

One is a phone modem card and the other is a Lan card.

    Phone Card Info:

    FCC - 6HKCHN -33805-MS-E
    DAA Module v3.0
    JACK RJ11C

    Lan Card Info:

    PCNET
    Lan Module v1.2
    HT2001 9926
    Davicom DM9102F

Hopefully that is enough info? The lan card didn't have much written on it.

PS: if I installed the driver earlier on the old HD, than shouldn't the drivers be on the old HD somewhere? I found one in the broadband folder that was a INF file, but the system didn't pick it up.

That should be enough, give me 10 mins or so. Right now it's the LAN we're interested in to get your broadband back but the modem probably accounts for two of the missing four drivers. So 3 down 1 to go.

Agreed. I can live without the modem driver or can digg it up myself. I just need the LAN driver, so I can get the PC live.

I did some digging and someone said "Davicom DM9102F" was the driver needed.

Found tons of places on google, but lots of the sites are dead/offline. This driver must be really old (10 years)

    Hi Harry,

Sorry about the delay, it's getting harder to find 98 drivers nowadays, anyway try this link, follow the registration/advert process and you should end up with a download for your card, Driverguide is a PITA but not a waste of time I've used them before.

Let me know how you get on and once we've got your LAN sorted we'll look at those other devices.

Well, I tried it and no luck.

I specify the location of the folder it should look into, and it basically says unable to find driver. The files are there, but I assume it believes they aren't the correct files?

    I have two missing drivers.

    PCI Communication
    PCI Ethernet

I've tried both, but this driver "should" be working for the PCI Ethernet...

TBH Harry I never contnued to the download, can you list the files in the folder?

Sometimes you have you direct device manager to the driver, other times you have to start the install.

    netsis.info
    sisnyc.sys
    sisnyc.cat

I did try it via device manager and it didn't work.

I'm trying a different driver, that I think might work.

I did some digging and someone said "Davicom DM9102F" was the driver needed.

    netsis.inf or netsis.info ?

    Let me know.

As far as I can determine that's for a sound card, nothing to do with LAN

Edit: Scratch that it appears the Davicom DM9102F is also known as a LAN card even more

    I'll keep looking...

2nd Edit: And also a Motherboard, I give up it's 5 am here and I need sleep. I'll look in tomorrow and see how you get on.

Well looks like I was right.

I tried that driver and it picked it up!

    Davicom Fast Ethernet.

My net is finally working now :)

    I'm missing 3 drivers.

    PCI Communications Device
    PCI Multimedia Audio
    Standard VGA graphics

I need the video more, as my images are all messed up.
Everything I have is built in with the mother board.
I don't have any gfx card, sound card. I'm not sure what the communication driver is needed for? I assume for the phone line modem?

Good to hear you resolved the LAN Issue, For others what driver did you try?

Anyway, as for those missing drivers, the comms device is your modem (we'll get to that later it's late and I need to sleep) ;)

The multimedia Audio and Graphics are built into your motherboard so we need to determine what that is.

Download CPU-Z unzip and run, click on the mainboard tab and let me know what the manufacturer and model is.

I'll grab a coffee and stay online for another hour or so then look back before ZZZZzzzzzzzz ;)

Ah.. I thought my post went through...

    The model is:

    PCCHIPS
    M741LMRT

I was able to find a sound driver, but nothing for video yet.

PS: I appreciate the help wildfire. I can wait till tomorrow ;)
I'll probably be on the web searching tonight for the driver. If I don't find it, I'll let you know.

    You should get some sleep.
    Thanks for the help pal!

    Try this.

Let me know how you get on.

Edit: Just downloaded and checked contents, once downloaded unzip and goto the win9x folder and run setup.

I also have links for your other drivers but that'll wait until later, you can verify the graphics whilst I sleep ;)

It doesn't seem to be working. It has an error right at the end. It's not able to find a file from Hkey/Local area...

EDIT: I think I found the motherboard manfu. site.

    http://www.motherboard.cz/driver/

    What's the exact error message?

Been there, you'll just run around in circles with sites like that.

Your manufacturer's website is here but the download links are a little borked (at least on my system)

    I can see now!!!
I found another driver and it worked.
It didn't use a setup file, but had the INF file.

What's left now is modem and apparently my sound driver isn't working.
I'm going to grab the sound drive now.

Any chance you found a link for the modem driver?
