Dug up a dinosaur Mustek brand wireless router that was setup by someone else before I came along with my own and replaced it. I dont have any of the documentation but guessed the address as 192.168.1.1 and the login as admin/admin.

My network adapter is set to obtain automatically and after plugging in the router via cable, all the lights come on and I can access the routers menu's for a couple of seconds but then the connection dies every time with lost connection/weak signal warning alert and I cant go about setting it up.

I vaguely remember the original user saying they had problems, but evidently got it working in the end.

    Any help appreciated.

If you're connecting via cable the signal strength/quality wouldn't apply. Sounds like there's something seriously wrong with that router, if a firmware upgrade is available I'd try that otherwise give up and send it to silicon heaven.

Yeh I thought 'eh weak signal?' when I saw it.

The router is probably going on 5 or so years old. I google'd the brand name but cant find any links or references to network hardware by them, they seem to have discontinued in that area a very long time ago.

The thing is, the router was setup and working on this pc before I came along, so im pretty sure it does work. Im just abit stumped as to how the original user managed it.

Does the system you're connecting with also have a wireless adapter and is it possible you're using that to connect (either to the Mustek or a neighbourhood's router)?

If you can give the model number of the Mustek perhaps I or others could help further.

Just the onboard network adapter on the MB. This pc connects to the router directly with another 2 connecting via wireless.

I tried disabling it and brought over an external wireless receiver from another pc and tried to get a stable connection to the router through that but no luck, nor can I access it from the other comps.

    It's a Mustek WR-22 model btw.

Seemed to be quite popular in Germany a few years ago but I can't get any english hits on that model, I'll leave it to others to help but considering the cost of wireless routers nowadays would it not be easier to buy a more modern better supported router?
