I want to place my videos (VHS) onto CDs. What is the best programs to do this for me? Freeware and paid programs ok.

I also need to know if I need any special cards to add to my pc.

We would need to know what VIdeo card you already have, and on what type system, otherwise how can we say if you need anything else?

Suffice it to say though that if your video card has a VIDEO IN plug already then you are set to go to record from VHS VIDEO OUT to your computer's VIDEO IN (Turning in into digital mpeg)

Also assuming the Audio connections are available too, those would be hooked up for the sound.

Now to transfer the mpeg to CD, if you want to play it on your DVD player for example, require conversion to VCD, and that type program often comes with the CR-R/RW drives, such as Roxio Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.

If you just want it on CD to play MPEGs direct on your computer, then you don't need to transfer it to VCD.

I also think that some of the new DVD players now will play CD/R/RW direct, as well as JPEG and so perhaps simple MPEGs too, so that conversion to VCD may not need to be done.

There are machines that are standalone that can make the transfer much easier. Direct from VHS to DVD, and all you have to do is plop inthe tape and a balnk DVD recordable and presto.
Phillips is making a product for that and it's quite good. A bit pricey so far, but it'll come down.

    VHS to CD

Thanks for the help. Yes it would help if you knew what hardware I already have. I have a WinTV PCI card with S-Video in. I also have a program called Movie DV. I have never used it so I do not know it's abilities.

    Thanks again for the responses.:p :p :p :p
