Hello, I have a friend who is starting to lose his sight, and is having trouble reading the text on the sidebar in Windows Explorer. Is there any way to increase the font displayed, other than decreasing the resolution? I have already increased the Global Font size to Extra-Large, and that does not appear to have an effect on the font size in the common tasks bar.

Here is what I am referring to

    Thanks!

Hi, nabilalk. Belated welcome to Windows BBS! :)

Have you considered using the "Magnifier" Accessibility feature of Windows XP?

    If you're interested, then
    1. Click Start > Help and Support > Accessibility menu item on the left of the "Help and Support Center" window (under "Pick a Help topic ").
    2. Expand the "Features for people who are blind or have impaired vision" menu item in the "Accessibility" menu.
    3. Click "Magnifier ".
    4. Select "Magnifier overview" to help you determine whether it would be useful or not.

Hi, yes I have considered the magnifier. It is too cumbersome to use effectively. I want to change the font displayed globally, not just when using the magnifier. Thanks.

Display properties->Settings tab->Advanced button-> try playing around with the DPI setting.

Hi, I already tried that. The DPI setting has no effect on the font displayed on the common task pane.

    I have tried the magnifier

I have exhausted the Display settings in Properties.

    Any other ideas? Thanks.

As explained to you on the other forum where you posted this question, you are SOL.

Microsoft did a better job in Vista to improve the OS for people with special needs (such as larger fonts), so I'd suggest looking at Vista if you think working with the magnifier is too cumbersome.

I see. That is indeed unfortunate. I see nothing wrong with getting a second opinion though. Who knows what one person may know over the other? Thanks for the follow-up.
