I am trying to install Windows Vista Home Premium...

I have tried numerous ways around my problem but to no avail,

My system specs should be at the bottom of this post, erm...

When installing i encounter no probs (Hangs at 27% extracted for a while) until i go through the final re-boot where it fails to get past the bios, not even in safe mode.
Memory test comes back fine and i have been running XP for a year or so.
I choose the updates via the internet option at install.

Please help me get round this, if you need any more info please ask! x

kguite - Welcome to the Board :)

m3low's post is irrelevant to your Vista problem - please wait until a Vista expert comes along with some suggestions. I am not your man - XP Pro :)

Read: Windows Vista setup log file locations.

Now try locating some of the log files. I'd suggest looking for errors in

    C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log

    and/or

    C:\WINDOWS\PANTHER\setuperr.log

Hi, it reads to me that you are trying to do a upgrade from XP to Vista, this can always be troublesome, any chance to do a clean install?? definitely would be more successful.

We might be a little late Hawk, but anyway...

In Windows XP, run the Vista compatibility wizard.

There may be hardware present that is too old and Vista is not supplying drivers. If you have any "add-in" hardware connected, disconnect it.

Is the Vista installation disk free of dirt and scratches?

If it is an OEM system, you might only be able to upgrade to Vista by using the OEM's upgrade disks.

My vista disk will not let me upgrade (its disabled) so all installs i have tried have been clean installs on a different partition to my xp install!
    thanks for the reply,

Have run the compatibility wizard and i am all clear hardware wise, and i have tried an install with out the only add in hardware, my wireless card, got the same problems!
I am pretty sure my disk is ok as the first time i tried to build the comp i git vista to install but it was terribly unstable and i was off to uni so i installed XP to get it going and i have not looked back until SP3...
Its a self build so no OEM...

    thanks for the reply,
    keiran.

I have a hunch it is to do with my motherboard, its been a **** **** ever since i got it...
MSI 975x platinum power up edition (fast tho!)
It wouldn't accept my ram the first time i tried to build it and the ram was fine, i sold it to a mate who has had no issues with it since, and the first time i got it to install it wouldn't find my hard drive (SATA II - there are some JMicron drivers that vista doesn't have i think...) either had to play around installing drivers which didn't work so me and a friend decided to install XP and upgrade from there which worked but there were severe stability problems so i just installed xp and ever since the option to upgrade has been disabled (grayed out of the menu).
Any ideas are good for me coz i am stuck hard!
    keiran.

And i am at home atm so i cant try anything til i get back which will be the 4th of Jan! x

I can't offer any swift answer.

I have a problem or two with my MSI motherboard. It does work, quite well, but has "quirks ", maybe like yours.

I suggest you go into the BIOS settings and start disabling onboard hardware (make a record of whatever you disable and re-enable it if it does not work). That's the way I have overcome the problems with mine. If your hardware is under warranty, look at returning it. It should not be that hard to install Windows. Are they going to make you wait while they test it though? On one of my original builds, they sent the graphics card to Taiwan to be tested when the motherboard was the problem
