    Hey all -

Ive never posted on this site before, but I was searching on google and came across this site about ten minutes ago... Hope yall can help..

So I have a 5 or 6 year old HP that recently crashed on me... I just bought and installed a new WD hard drive into the computer with no problem, and when I installed all the necessary software to get the harddrive working, an error message came up that said that I didn't have windows set up on the system and to load it on... So I called HP and requested system recovery discs and ran the system recovery.. when I came to the end, error messages were popping up, saying that specific files could "not be recovered." The recovery went through to 100 percent anyway, and when I restarted the computer, an error message came up that said..

    Load needed DLLs for Kernel

Im sure you guys are familiar with this being that I read a few other posts on the site about other people experiencing it, but I feel like I am in a differnet situation because my computer is crashed, I can't even get into windows becuaes its not installed. There is absolutely nothing on the computer that Im worried about, I just need to get everything settled with windows..

I called HP and they wanted to charge me some absurd amount of money for technical support, so I declined and am looking for other options..

Im pretty much stumped... if any of you guys can give me a little bit of advice on what to do, I would greatly appreciate it...

    Thanks alot

Hi BeastMode, I'm not savvy with your problem. Did your HD crash and then you renewed it? If it was a new HD it would need an OS installed and normally the HD should be Booted with an appropriate disc and then FDISK check to see if it's formatted and partitioned and active. I assume you are running XP HE? If that all checks out your HP discs should be OK to set it up. I recently had a problem with a Compaq Laptop and couldn't get the ME Quick Restore CD's to install, so I installed Win98 then put the Recovery discs in after Win98 and everything installed and works OK. If you are putting the HD as an extra drive, then you are out of my league. You will have to wait for someone more savvy than me to help. You may need to provide more info on your Comp as well. Merry Xmas. Neil.

I expect you can boot to the "System Restore" disks. Since you do not need to keep the data from the previous install, look at selections that you can make by booting to the disks. Is there a selection to go to Factory System Set-up (or similar wording)? If there are different selections, start trying different ones.

You should be able to find information at the HP website (try searching for "system restore "). Most of us here don't have OEM systems or may have a different recovery system to yours. HP have forums, you could search or ask there.

    Matt
