I cannot prove the cause but a few days ago IE was switched to a "no add-ons" mode. Since I suspect that it was caused by the most recent version upgrade of Opera I have deleted that program. I have also attempted a repair of MS Office (2003). The condition still exists.

The IE item on the start menu is includes (No Add Ons) in the caption. All add-ons (roughly 20) have been enabled through add-on manager. Nothing strikes me as obvious in options/settings.

    Any ideas?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

There appear to be conflicting statements in your post ......
which I read as you cannot re-enable the add-ons and ....
Be grateful if you would clarify and also post IE version - 6, 7 or 8.

Let me attempt to clarify, please understand that I am not all that knowledgable in this area.

I have the ability to open and enable add-ons through the add-on manaager in IE, my current list of add-ons follows this post. With the add-ons enabled (or disabled) IE still loads in a add-ons disabled mode. I am assuming that there is a menu selection that I have overlooked, but I am guessing.

This problem occured in IE 7, in trying to resolve the problem I installed IE 8 (beta). The problem persists.

    I understand :)

I would normally suggest a reset of IE, but as the problem arises in both versions this may not be appropriate or successful (Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - Reset)

If you enable a single add-on through Manage Add-ons does IE still start in no Add-ons mode? If it does not it is likely that one of the add-ons is causing the problem.

There are entries in your add-ons list that raise queries - disable the BitDefender toolbar and test.

There is an abnormal number of Jave Plugins listed - all out of date.

I suggest you update your Java and through Add/Remove Programs uninstall all previous versions - these are not required and retain the security holes which prompted the issue of an Update. These updates are the complete program and do not update existing versions. Current version of Java is Java 6 Update 11, shown in Add-ons as 6.0.110.3.

I shall be away from the BBS as of tonight (10pm GMT) for a week or so.

    IE (No Add Ons)

I have disabled the BitDefender Toolbar, removed three Java versions and installed the most current (V6) Java.

No change. My (blunt force) approach would be to delete all add-ons and test / rebuild. I have no idea of the ramifications of that action.

I am back. but no wiser re. a solution to your problem :)

I suggest a Reset of IE - post #4 and if that has no effect and I am doubtful that it will resolve the problem the only other suggestion is to roll back to IE 6 - Uninstall IE7 through Add/Remove Programs. This can only be done in XP, hence my question re. OS.

If IE6 runs according to plan I would try a fresh install of IE7 ......
