As of today what's the best free antiVirus software available?
I've used AVG and am currently using Avast 4.8, but just got a trojan horse so I'm thinking of changing again.
I've read good reviews for AVG lately, though a while back the computer mags were touting Avast, which has been fine until now.

I'm using Avira on 2 laptops and my Vista box and to date have had no issues.

On my desktop I use NOD32, but that is pay for.

    Ah, so it was you!

I have a link to Avira and didn't remember who'd recommended it.
I should have known. That settles THAT discussion.
I'll load it up straight way.
    Thx again Pete!

Now have Avira up and running. Seems to be much quicker than Avast.

Any one which works for you & you are comfortable with.

All of them provide more or less the same protection and all anti virus software (whether paid or free) have some quirks of their own.

well, i use avast for a year already, and think that its kinda slow.
and use avira in office, seems ok ok.
and my house pc currently running AVG 8. seems ok too.

with this 3 virus protection... which is the best? and state others that is better than this 3 (freeware :p)

For anyone asking this question, this is a handy site to find out where the top tier AV's stand in comparison to each other: http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Never heard of it, so I just did a search and it is a free Microsoft product, though personally Microsoft is not my favourite (for much of anything).

Let's be absolutely clear on this - ClamWin is NOT a Microsoft product - it is an open source project from SourceForge.net .....

I won't use Clamwin as my primary antivirus on Windows machine as it does not has a online scanner. Previously it only used to report viruses but did not remove them - it could only quarantine the file but not clean it.

It can be definitely used as a second line of defense.

Good reason not to use it as a primary defense.

Since this thread is talking about anti virus.
    would want to ask....
COMODO provide firewall and anti virus too.
If i wanna use COMODO anti-v, should i uninstall my current one? (AVG)

and is comodo anti virus recommended? better than AVG?
