I don't use the default Windows Mail which came with Vista. I use Fastmail (which I love -- they have a new beta program now that's really slick), and I'd like to put the icon on my start menu to keep from having go to "Favorites" to access my email.

I tried wading through the instructions in the tutorial and got totally lost. Does anyone know how to do this?

Find the shortcut you already have - right click and select "Pin to Start Menu "

The only short cut I have is the one in my favorites, and when I right-clicked on the icon, the "pin to" choice wasn't an option.

Try dragging the shortcut to the desktop and then drag it to the start button.

I hate to be totally dense, but I cannot figure out how to get it to my desktop because it's in a list of favorites, which means that I have to have an Internet page open. The only place it will go is to another location in the list of favorites.

You can go to the favorites and copy and then paste it to your desk top, it'll open from their, but I can see no way of putting it in your start menu.

Having it on the desktop would be OK, too. But after I highlight the URL and click on "copy," I can't go anywhere because the "paste" option drop-down closes when I go back to my desktop from the Internet, which is where I am trying to paste.

I think the problem is that I have this icon in my "favorites" list, meaning that I have to open an Internet page to access it. I don't see how I can get to the desktop from there.

*Open IE and go to the url you wish.

*move IE window so you can see just enough of a blank spot on the desktop to drag the url from the addressbar to the desktop.

*Once the url shortcut is on the desktop, drag and drop it on the startbutton.

*Note you can also customize this shortcut even further if you wish.
    1]You can rename it.
2]You can rightclick on it and from the properties change the icon to one more desirable.

Are you aware that it's just as easy to have your IE links bar viewable and use this as your own personal shortcut bar. You can make folders to organize and drag links into. I personally have many such folders on my links bar.

    Sorry noclue,

If IE browser window is maximized, meaning it is opened to full size, you cannot move it. You can minimize it to the task bar, close it or reduce it's size (called restore down).

All these are can be done in a number of ways but the fastest is just to double click on the title bar which is the black (or what ever color title bar your theme is using) top part of ie. It will shrink so you can move it out of your way. Once reduced, just left click/hold while you move it enough to expose a portion of the desktop..

you can also use the upper right corner icons which are -, double squares, and a X. Just click on the double squares. (note this will be a single square if browser window is reduced in size and a double squares if maximized)

    - collapses or minimizes window to taskbar.
    X closes or quits window.
square(s) reduces window size up or down.

    ----------------------
You may also right click on the blank spot of the taskbar (the one with the startbutton and systray on it) and from the options select "Cascade windows ". This will also reduce IE plus any other windows you may have open that are blocking access to the desktop.

Since FastMail is a Webmail, not a program, this is rather more suited to the Internet Explorer forum.

When you right-click the favorite and click "copy ", you can minimize IE. Right-click and empty space on your desktop & from the menu choose Paste.

Sorry, Arie. I am so clueless that I really didn't understand what Fastmail actually was. I thought I was just asking how to get an icon on my start menu/desktop. My bad!
