Hi, I have word 2000 as part of office pro 2k. All of that suite has been updated to SP3, BUT, with secunia psi, it says I must update word. My version of word2k is 9.0.0.8968, and the MS website says the latest version is 9.0.0.8974. BUT I have not been able to find the "KB..." file to make this update. Using the automated MS update feature does NOT list any office 2k updates, and I have had this problem before and it's easier to just find the updates directly (yes, the apps need updating, the auto-updater fails to work, just another MS flaw). SO- does anyone know the kb number to update to 9.0.0.8974? Or how I might find that update? Thank you.

Secunia psi (free for home use) is a security monitoring tool. Look 'em up.

FYI, I had already downloaded & successfully installed what has appeared to be the latest ms update kb956328, but 9.0.0.8974 appears to be later. So how can secunia know about this & yet I can't find a related update on MS? Thanks.

Are you using Microsoft Update as opposed to Windows Update? the former looks for updates to MS programs as well.

Secunia gives you a download link in the report - did you try it?

Yes, PeteC, I have tried (like voting) early & often. The Secunia links have NEVER (ever, ever) worked for me, on PC or Mac. I have also been advised to try a new user name or pw or both on their own forums, since I have not even succeeded in registering there. Odd, but that's why I'm posting here.

I am still looking for the answer to how to update to word 2k v. 9.0.0.874, despite having the kb956328 installed successfully (ms update's own "success" msg. said so). It also seems an odd solution, but yes, I could try r & r-ing kb956328.

KB956328 was issued on 9 Dec 2008 - I doubt there's a later one regardless of what Secunia may say.

According to that article the version of Winword.exe is 9.0.0.8974

While I think it's a good idea, nonetheless I removed Secunia PSI. Re-scanning removed the current issue for Word, but apparently this Sec PSI gives a fair amt. of false positives & resolving all the trouble on simple issues like login wasn't worth it for me. I'll continue to monitor their timely warnings as other sites/people report on them.
