My pc won't go past the loading screen, instead it goes to the blue screen with the stop errors. I can't get past it to do anything my only option is the boot screen which I can't navigate. Is there a way to get past the blue screen to the desktop. My pc was shut off by a tripped circuit braker that cut off during internet browsing, which when turned back on produced this unavoidable blue screen. How do I fix this? If more info is needed remeber I can't get past the blue screen I can only tell you what's on it.

It would be much easier for us to offer some help if you posted the detail of the Stop Error.

I suspect that the power loss may have resulted in some damage to your hardware, especially if the hard drive was reading/writing at the time.

This is on the blue screen.
    ***STOP:0x0000007B (0x8187b030, 0xc0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
    INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard dive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it's properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corrution and then restart your computer

I can't get past this screen to do anything is there a way to fix this, or at least get to the desktop to transfer my files? I didn't change any settings prior to the power being tripped, nor did i install any thing new. Oh and the OS is 2000 professonal NT.

I have edited your title to reflect the detail of the Stop Error.

I am not familiar with W2k so will leave it to others familiar with the OS to suggest means of recovery.
If you are using a USB keyboard I suggest you try a PS/2 keyboard (a USB keyboard plugged into a PS/2 socket via an adapter remains a USB keyboard.

If the use of a PS/2 keyboard enables to to select from the boot screen try Safe Mode or Command Prompt - I don't know the options in W2k. You can then run chkdsk /r, but I would always recommend a backup of data before doing this.

In your case it may be difficult/impossible and for safety sake I would install the drive in another computer as slave and, if the drive is recognised, copy your data off.

Thank you for the title change and safe mode isn't working either; I'll try switching the drive to another computer. And Thanks for the keyboard tip but I was refering to my lack of pc knowledge, to sucessfully navigate the options once I press f8 for advance options.

    Blue Screen Win2k

    Hi Killa K:
First watch when the computer attempts to boot. Note the numbers and name of the STOP ERRORS. These will tell the problem.
Get the name of each, if more than one, then Search the Internet, or on Microsoft.com for what the errors stand for. These numbers will give the problem which is stopping the full boot process. Once you find the error or problem, then it is time to fix it.
These kinds of STOP ERRORS ...problems can be caused by a number of things which include drivers, computer viruses, and other things. Here is an example from this site:http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm
    "0x00000012: TRAP_CAUSE_UNKNOWN
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
By its very nature, this error means that the cause of the identified problem is unknown. Start with the General Troubleshooting of STOP Messages checklist above. Read the MSDN article linked here. Especially try to track it down by noting the history of the problem, when it appeared, and what changes were made to the system since the problem first appeared, as well as noting what activity you are attempting at the time the error message appears. "

After getting the number of the stop error, I would try a number of things if the number is hard to decipher. First check the memory modules. One of the things which can happen on a power failure, is possible damage to parts such as the memory module(s). Download a memory module checker, they are free and will fit on a floppy or on a cd, for self booting. These small memory checker programs come with a self-running system and will catch the memory test before the computer boots, usually just after the bios post.
Another thing is to test the different cards to make sure they are okay. A power failure can damage other things like the power supply, due to over or under voltage surge. A high voltage surge can also damage parts of the motherboard as well as most any parts in the system.
Because the circuit breaker shut down while you were browsing the Net, means that Windows could not close all the cache, registry, or other files related to browsing. So... it could be that the registry is corrupted. For a fix here is what to do. Go to SAFE MODE and see if it will run in safe mode.
If it will not run in safe mode, then you have to use a backup restore registry (you can find this in the Backup program with the option to use backup to floppy of the registry (some newer Windows gives a choice to use a cd), here also you can choose to backup the registry to the hard drive) to Win2k, normally stored on a floppy disk. Of course, this option to fix this is not going to help if you made no backup....A great reminder to make frequent backups of your system and don't forget to backup the registry with the backup program.

Another way is to simply choose F8 when the system is booting, then choose last known good configuration. That is a great site for fixes.
    Hope it all works well,
