Ive tried countless google searches, and even youtube searches, to find out which addons are essential for things like java and flash to work. i have ones on there that i dont even recognize or know what theyre for. ive disabled obvious ones like 'avg safe search' (cuz it just ***** up time and memory) but, i still am wondering which are necessary.

the only things i could find on google was things saying to add more addons - but arent addons just memory hogs?

im confused why we even need addons... ie6 didnt have any but things like java and flash worked then. its weird.

i know you can run it without any addons, but then java & flash dont work, which are really the only 2 things i use. (and this version wont run in slimbrowser either. its a browser that looks like tabbed ie6 but uses all of ie7's settings)

    can anyone offer any help?

It did provided that you were running XP SP2 ......

Control Internet Explorer Add-ons with Add-on Manager
In IE7 - Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons look under Publisher for Sun Microsystems - these are the Java add-ons - 4 on my version of IE 7

Flash is not listed, but should be found under .....

Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Browsing History > Settings > View Objects

I should perhaps have written - XP SP2 or above. The Manage Add-ons feature is integral to Internet Explorer, it is not a separate piece of software.

In IE 6 as shown in the URL I posted, in IE7 as I posted ....

thats the thing though, ive found that, but i dont know what most of them are. theres quite a few when i look at the ones that 'have been used' at some point. nowhere on the internet has given any useful information in that regard yet, except to add more 'cool' addons/unrelated results. im just looking for basically, which ones do i need for a 'bare bones' browser, since i only use flash and java for games/videos, & just normal images and other browsing things (youtube, google, etc) that i wouldnt think are addons.

You should only require those for Sun and Adobe as I noted above. Disable all others and test.

The only copy of IE 7 I have running is on my Vista box - running IE8 on XP desktop and laptop, and shown below is the list of add-ons for a basic install of Vista SP2. Green are required, red are not for basic operation - these are for the Google Toolbar - an essential add-on for me :)

You only need those in the current window.
