    Close down...?

When you try to shut down, you are offered 3 choices..
    Standby Turn Off Restart

One thing you may try, is after the final screen, as your computer is booting again up to BIOS, just reach over and turn it off.

But really, when you configured your computer, you configured it to maintain in on status, How to actually go back and change this, I do not know..
Check you control panel, may have a section in it.

Check for a motherboard BIOS update at the motherboard manufacturer's web site.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a conflict with Easy CD Creator 5.0 and XP. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article #Q311806 at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q311806. I have had nothing but problems with that program working with XP. It does not tolerate any other CD burning software that may be included with other programs being on the computer.

    Just an idea.
