I was on a webpage thru Firefox that did not show the graphics I used to get so I tried accessing thru Windows IE. IE loaded the URL in Firefox!!!

I thought that the site had changed and that prevented getting the graphics in Firefox. That may be true but could not cause the action I got in IE

First off, there's no such thing as Windows IE.

Did you mean Windows Explorer or Microsoft Internet Explorer?

What is your default browser settings? If Firefox I wouldn't be surprised if that was used for new links.

IE didn't load the site inside a Firefox window. It's likely FF crashed and was still resident in memory and the FF window did not completely close out.

Of course, I know Windows Explorer is the file explorer of windows --- just a slip of the key.:D

I don't think the site opened in Firefox inside IE. I'm pretty sure it was separate and both apps were live. Could Firefox crash and re-appear the same way several times. This problem happened several times

No problem, but for others reading this, Windows Explorer can instigate the opening of websites, though it passes the request to the default browser. Hence my request for clarification.

If both browsers were live what makes you think FF crashed?

Again I'll ask what is your default browser (I've a feeling it's firefox) ;).

Tony, Isn't what you wrote above a contradiction ;)

I think the only thing we'll agree on is "sounded like ", it's probably best to wait for tenbob's feedback and try and discover what exactly happened.

Firefox is my default, and some links are hard coded to open in IE, but not the other way around. I have heard of the issue mentioned by "tenbob" once before, but did not get enough details. Some people overlook some questions, like which program is default.

The beauty of computers is you're always learning, this is new to me.

Can you help an ignorant old man and explain default buffers?

This problem of IE windows opening in FF when FF is the default browser had been discussed extensively about 2 months ago. I had the same problem and finally designated IE as the default browser even though I use FF almost all the time. In this way IE windows open in IE and FF windows open in FF.
No one ever was able to solve this problem - as far as I know.

It is new to me, as well. I corrected it to "program ". I think that it makes sense.

I had the same problem one time when, without thinking, I selected Firefox as default. Every time that I clicked on the IE icon to go online, I got Firefox.

This just came to be, since I never had problems with IE opening Firefox. My concern wasx the opposite, i.e. links opening with IE. So, I have selected Set Program Access and Default|Custom. If any of you have made that selection, and still have problems, I have no answer. But, if selecting Custom, with a default for any other browser, then there may be something to it.
