Please see what sort of display you get when you press F8 as before to select Safe Mode, but this time select VGA - if that option is available.

    It worked!

I had to fiddle with the settings, but it seems normal now. What does this mean? Won't it revert back the next time I reboot?
Thanks so much for your help!

    Which settings?
There is no way of knowing that.

Now that you have a full screen I would still like to see the info I requested re. graphics adapter and motherboard.

Then maybe we can take this further.

    OK that's the info I wanted :)

You have onboard graphics - i.e. a chip on the motherboard as opposed to a plugin card, so the driver you loaded from Asus should have been the correct one. I will check later - tasks to do elsewhere.

    In the meantime .....
It would be helpful to know roughly what you did or a least where you did it in order to try to work out what the problem was/is.

I had to change the resolution ( higher) and then use the monitor horizontal adjustment just a bit. Should I try rebooting to see what happens?
I'm in South Carolina, where are you?

    Rebooted

and it came back up normal ( good). So I must have an Intermittent problem. Not good ,I suspect.
