Perhaps this is a dumb question, but outlook express (6) suddenly won't allow me to send an email to myself - so if I copy myself on a group email or try to see how an attachment opens before sending it out, it never arrives in my inbox. I have double checked all the options lists, can't find anything. Any ideas on this?

If you create a new mail and send it to yourself->
Does the original show up in the sent folder?

Your Inbox may be corrupted. As a matter of course I would make a new folder - InboxOld and drag the contents of your Inbox to it.

Close OE and search for *.dbx (include hidden files and folders), When found check the sizes of the folders - the limit is 2Gb each, but OE plays funny long before then.

Delete Inbox.dbx and open OE. Inbox will be recreated - drag mails from InboxOld into Inbox and delete InboxOld - test.

Ok, you can downgrade me to beginner status.... I searched for *.dbx including hidden folders, and discovered that there were lots of repeat folders of equal sizes. So I deleted the duplicates and went back to OE. I put all my inbox messages (too many) in a new folder, tried sending an email, and got nothing (in either the old or the new folder). What else am I missing? Thank you..... Lauren

I really have no idea why OE - or is it your ISP? - is behaving like this. I can't deduce from what you posted whether
implies that the Inbox.dbx folder was somewhat large or not - approaching 1GB, 2Gb...??

However it would be worth running through the steps in the Outlook Express Repair kit. Pass on Compacting and note that the command regsvr32 msjava.dll will fail as you will not have msjava installed.

Before you do that copy of all the *.dbx files to a backup location on your hard drive.

Which version of Internet Explorer are you running? (OE is integrated into IE)
