My boss uses Outlook Express. Without him making any known changes to his email specs, he started getting paragraph/formatting marks in the messages when he replied. How do I get rid of them?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)
Are you referring to paragraph/formatting marks in the original message when typing a reply which includes the original?

This is normal if using plain text rather than html and is controlled by Tools > Options > Send - Mail Sending format - Plain Text Settings, but I have a feeling that this in not your precise problem.

No, the formatting marks show up in MS Outlook Express 2003 in the reply that he types up, not in the original message.

Do you maybe mean OUTLOOK 2003?
There's no such thing as Outlook Express 2003...

Anyway - if Outlook 2003 - Tools->Options->PREFERENCES tab->E-mail Options button -> look in the bottom section and disable the "Prefix each line" settings....

I know the name appears to be rather 'strange' but, when I went into his Outlook Express and clicked on 'help' and About Microsoft Outlook Express - that's what came up - MS Outlook Express 2003! It wasn't what I was expecting so don't know how the network 'guy' who set up his computer installed it but he had a new copy of MS Office 2003 that he installed on Pastor's pc.

Can you post a screen grab similar to the one attached?

There has never been an Outlook Express 2003 - OE is not dated in that way, but by versions as shown in the attachment.

Well, I finally got it figured out. When I asked the pastor to go up to 'help' click on it and then click on about MS Outlook Express, he did (he thought he did!!!) he said it said, "Outlook Express 2003 ". I went in to the office today and looked at his setup myself. It turns out that he had Outlook, not Outlook Express (he's not even a 'beginner' when it comes to figuring anything out on a computer). The paragraph marks were there - and I have never used Outlook but it looked to me as if they use Word as the program to create emails in Outlook. Anyway, I clicked on "View" and then on "Toolbars" and the 'standard' and 'format' toolbars weren't visible. When I made them show up on the menu bar, I saw the 'paragraph' tool to either show or not show formatting and clicked on it. The paragraph marks disappeared! Next time I won't work with him over the phone - I'll go in and sit at his PC and work on it directly. Sorry to have caused confusion!
