This is a frequently seen problem and there are many posts on many BB's, but I still have problem(s).

I have a home network (wired and wireless): XP desktop, Vista desktop, Vista laptop, 2 network attached storage (NAS), and a shared printer attached to the XP. I have a few other computers on the network but they are not relevant for this problem.

I have not problem with the Vista (ultimate) desktop, I see everything on the network.
However (since I rebuilt) my Vista (ultimate) laptop I have the following situation: I see the other Vista and can exchange files etc. no problem
I set up and can access the shared printer on the XP.
I do not see the XP neither the NAS, not even if I type in their ip address or name.
A few days ago I did see the entire network, but when I went to work with my laptop and came back > no more .
I downloaded all the latest and greatest updates, and patches from MS.

I have McAffe security center on all machines, set the same way (tried to disable firewall etc. no change)

The laptop is connected to the network via WiFi, the rest are wired. (however when my daughter comes home with her vista laptop she has no problem). > conclusion: it is not a network problem, it is not the issue with the XP (since other vista computers have no problem w or w/o wired access)
I have no problem when I use the wired connection, only when I join via WiFi.

I have a netgear wgt624 router, so assume it is a problem with either the WiFi Router or something with the WIFI driver on the Vista machine.

    Any idea?

    Appreciate any help

    Arie,

I read it before and read it again. None of the problem/solution given in that article solves my problem.

The laptop with Vista can access other Vista computers and the internet w/o any problem.

Looks like I have problem only getting through of the wireless router, (since it works if I use the wired side).

I assume it is something between the wireless router and vista. (the netgear has the latest drivers/firmware)

Looks like the solution for my problem is the following:

I had to turn on the UPnP service on my router.

    Issue resolved.

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) helps devices, such as Internet appliances and computers, access the network and connect to other devices as needed. UPnP devices can automatically discover the services from other registered UPnP devices on the network

Unfortunately it was NOT the solution, since I got a few more BSOD the following day. To make the long story short, I had no problem with the ethernet, I found that saving my contacts to a NAS gave me the BSOD but only over the air. Called IBM (Lenovo) and finally the third person pointed to the wifi drivers. Helped me locate the latest drivers, downloaded, installed and now I really have the solution.

Summary: The network driver(s) used by the wireless card was the problem.

Have no idea what happened, since I downloaded the latest patches from MS for Vista and the Thinkpad from Lenovo.

It is working and I am somewhat concerned about factory patches and driver updates. Conclusion do not fix if it is not broken!

One of the golden rules of computing :D

However, not so easy with new malware attacks needing to be blocked.

Thank you again for posting back a solution.
