I have XP Pro and Vista dual-boot. XP was installed first and then Vista. I have Vista the way I want it. How can I clone just the Vista partition to another hard drive and make it bootable? Or can I? Thanks for any consideration.

I also have Ubuntu running in Vista. Should I uninstalled Ubuntu before I do this(because of GRUB)? TIA

I don't think you can..Vista's boot manager will be looking for the XP partition.....

It's possible Vista's registry entries will be pointed to the wrong drive letter...

Just cloning the whole drive would be the easiest thing to do.

Thanks for your response. I was afraid of that. What I wanted to do is just have Vista on the hard drive and put XP on a separate drive, as I lose my Vista restore points every time I boot XP. I really did not want to do clean install of Vista again. I guess I just won't boot XP again 'til I am ready to reinstall Vista. Everything I'm doing with this computer works as well with Vista as it does with XP, so I was just thinking about not using XP at all. Just wanted to keep XP handy in case I ever need to use it again. By the way I am running Vista HP 64bit and really do like it, for whatever that's worth Thanks again
