    Hi folks,

I am getting far too much rubbish from:
    Plaza Neptuno, local #7
Via ricardo J Alfaro, Tumba Muerto
    Panama Ciudad
    Republica de Panama

Which uses a different e-address every time for all different products! They will block up my email allowance if I don’t get on top of it. I have requested the standard "remove me" option but I suspect that only gives them more scope!!

I have scanned thro the pages here but cant find anything that appears to fit this problem. Does any one have some clues as to what I must do to rid myself of these people?

    Tnx for all help offered.

Post a full header from an email you received. I'll try to help regarding who to complain to but it may be a spambot :(

You are right regarding responding, spammers don't care and the majority of the time all you've done is confirm the email address is valid. Can you easily change your email address (it may be the only option)?

OK, thanks for that info ...

I will post it up next time I get one. I delete these things as soon I recognise them.
I have been putting up with this for about a year!

My email address is used in many, many places and changing it at all those places does not appeal to me at all. Maybe this is part of the problem?

A few years ago, I received 50+ spam Emails a day. Like you, I didn't fancy the idea of changing my addy. I didn't think it would work but I installed MailWasherFree and started using it. All Emails are checked in MWF, you put the good ones in the "friends list" and the bad ones in the "blacklist ". The bad ones get deleted from MWF and the good ones get downloaded into your Email client.

I don't know how it works but I received less and less spam. Now, I've received 3 (three) since june 2008 and I can live with that ... ... ! Maybe, when a spam is received in an Email client, it sends some kind of "receipt" to the sender but when filtered in MWF, that doesn't happen and your addy gets removed ... ... somehow. As a comparison, I get "tons" of spam to my Gmail account but they get filtered with high accuracy.

I have had another one from Panama ! It's a new e-address for the same product I got some time ago. They are obviously using unlimited number of e-addresses to somehow get past the filters.

I tried to zip the email below but couldn't find the "Manage Attachments" button. ( Hope this help you experts a bit )

Just jumping in, trying to help. :)

You've posted the email... but not the header. That's the info that the "real experts" around here need to help. All you need to do is:

1 - Right Click on the email in Outlook Express (which is what I use... the instuctions I've typed should be similar for other email clients) in the list of your emails.

2 - Then Left Click on "Properties ".

3 - Click on the "Details" tab.

4 - Then highlight and copy the entire header.

5 - Paste it in a reply here! You can (should) xxxxx over any sensitive data, like your email address... or delete all of them if you and a bunch of other people's email addresses are listed also...

So your post should look something like this:
    --------------------------------------------

    Return-path: <xxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.com>
    Envelope-to: xxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.com
    Delivery-date: Fri, 05 Dec 2008 00:47:50 -0600
Received: from [zz.zz.zzz.zzz] (helo=ArthurPC) <----NOTE - I "x "ed out this info since this is just so you see what it should look like... there will be numbers in place of the z's in your header

OK, I couldn't get anything like that on my Thunderbird, deck. So I opened my O.E. and d-loaded all my emails again, that took some time. ( I have been using Thunderbird for a couple of years ).

The IP address above is your mailserver...

And the above received line is when your ISP recieved the email from 207.154.203.151, this is the originator of the email so a lookup on that address should let you know who to complain to...

    Code:
    Whois Record (Irrelevant info snipped)

Two organisations are responsible for that address, Kevworks, LLC who lease it from Global Technology Solutions, Inc.

Complain to Kevworks first, if no joy there then complain to Global Technology Solutions, Inc. (note take the spaces out of the email addresses)

Btw the email came from California not Panama ;)

No problem, a couple of tips when composing your complaints...

Supply the full header (as you did on this forum).

Be respectful (I'm sure that didn't need to be said), request feedback but be aware that although the spam came from their server they may not even be aware of it. In fact you may even be doing them a service by letting them know they have an open server/spambot/rogue employee and they need to look at their security.

Whatever happens let me know how you get on fairwind.

Just to add to Christers comments about MailWasher. I've been using the Pro version for years (free version before then) and cannot say enough good things about this program. I never get SPAM into my mailbox on my PC.

When I want to check my mail...
    - I start MailWasher or if it's all ready running double-click icon in system tray to open it
    - It then downloads all the headers of mail mail from 3 different mailboxes (my ISP and 2 GMail accts)
    - It will then mark the mails, that it considers spam, for deletion ( I go through them to verify in case it incorrectly marked a good e-mail bad)
    - I then tell it to "Process Mail "...it will then delete the mail marked for deletion from my 3 accounts then open my mail editor (Outlook 2007) and the e-mails that were marked as "Friends" will then download into my mailbox.

It does take a few extra minutes to get my mail but I don't get spam and that's what it's all about.

    Christer and dobhar,

Tnx guys. for your support. I have d/loaded mailwasher and it looks impressive, complicated and will take me a bit of time to say anything comprehensive about it.

What I do seem to understand is, mailwasher will prevent unwanted emails d/loading to my PC and that the unwanted emails will then be left in my ISP's PC. Is that correct? If so, then I still have a minor problem in that my ISP has an upper limit (50Mb) on what they will allow me to hold in their PC. Once that limit is reached I must then login and delete the stuff myself. This is something new my ISP has dumped on me ( and I suppose other clients ). It's not all that onerous, just a bit of a nuisance, stuff I can program into my weekend maintenance work.

Wildfire, Re: "a couple of tips when composing your complaints... ".

Tnx for that, it gave me exactly what I needed to frame my "email of complaint" to the first addressee. I sent that yesterday and hopefully I will get a response today. Will post details later.

    Your welcome fairwind... :)
Actually that is incorrect...when you mark the "SPAM or unwanted" e-mails for deletion they are deleted from your ISP. I only log into my ISP e-mail 2 or 3 times a year as I do everything using Mailwasher.

    From Mailwasher FAQ => http://www.mailwasher.net/faq#

OK, I have been playing around with MailWasher and have tried the "blacklist" function. It's easy to choose where to place each sender with a RH mouse click.
I logged in and checked my ISP and sure enough, those blacklisted are indeed gone !! It seems to delete any email I choose as well without my logging into my ISP. I can also get the Header now from Thunderbird with MailWasher.

Wonder of wonders, I am on a winner here.

I will check out the SpamCop thing later on, after my "email of Comlaint" exercise.

    Tnx dobhar and Christer.

Well, I went & checked it out some other ways. 1st I checked the domain pdf-net-online.info. If you go to the site, you'll see:

Looking at the source-code I found the domain linked to the mailing list

Going to that site you'll see they offer toolbars.

So it is entirely possible they have a legit right to email you (if you have one of their toolbars installed).

    Hi there Arie,

Tnx for your response. I cant see how I have a toolbar from a music site. I play CDs sometimes on my PC but surely they wont instal a toolbar? Have I downloaded a toolbar? I have no recollection of ever having done so. Music is not something I look for on the web. I do surf around a bit but that is mainly focussed on Forex currency trading forums and blogs, forex brokers and similar. That takes about 90% of my surfing. Another 5% on computer sites for assistance, particularly WindowsBBS. The 'Jeaks' label rings no bells for me, a PC search doesn't bring 'Jeaks' up either.

I can see the option to "Unsubscribe" but having done that several times from the spam emails I am somewhat reluctant. Then again, having done it from emails several times, maybe once more wont change anything? I will try this tomorrow.

I have had no response from "kev @ kevworks .net" yet, regards my "email complaint ". I will try the other e address tomorrow if kev doesn't reply.

More news later, as it comes in.
