    Hi,
I was given the lovely job of removing from a Dell Laptop with Windows Xp (Home Edition) AntiSpyware2009...After a very lengthy time I was able to remove it along with other infections...When I was done, the computer was running good and well protected now...My final task was to download SP2.

After the install of SP2 was done, the laptop rebooted and a message came up saying "setup was interrupted and was restoring prior configuration "...I let this run it's course but when it was done, the laptop pretty much stopped working...It will boot up and after it reaches the Windows Xp screen the screen goes blank and stays blank...I cannot even get into safe mode...My assumption is, the memory the computer has is 256 MB and the download of SP2 made the computer unstable and not enough sufficient memory to handle the load...

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated...Thank you

    Update:
I did a Google search on the problem and felt it was alot of work trying to figure out what was wrong and what went wrong so to make life a little simplier, I did a format. Upgraded it from Windows Xp to Windows Xp Pro and even though it's booting up finally, it's calling for more memory...

To make a long story short, the SP2 problem is history...Thank you all.

    Hi,
I figured it was best to climb the ladder, SP2 now and then at some point SP3rather than go from the bottom of the ladder to the top and find out some where along the line it's what I had to do...Not being sure I could, I went with the side of caution incase there were some security features that were also required before doing the SP3...

Service Packs are cumulative. Everything in the previous ones are included in the next. What you don't get is the "uninstall clutter" from two Service Packs and if you slipstream SP3 into your XP CD, then you get no "uninstall clutter" at all but you'd have to take it from square one with a clean installation.

    hI,
Thank you for that info and I will store that for future refrences...I also read thru my google searches that SP2 is part of the IE7 package ??? Anyways, in my search for finding ways to get the laptop to boot up past the Windows Xp screen was difficult...I used a Windows Xp CD I have (not the one that came with it) to use commands such as "Windows repair, chkdsk, fixboot and fixmbr" and nothing worked...I returned the laptop with Windows Xp Pro installed and unfortunately it's now in need of more memory...

    SP2 is a prerequisite for IE7 but IE7 is optional. Installing IE7 doesn't include SP2.

Now that we know the laptop still works, buy it some more memory, at least upgrade to 1 GB if it will accomodate that. Never hurts to have extra RAM and this shouldn't cost too much.
