Since i have had XP i have been able to access the internet (i am on this site right now). But i have not been able to access online servers. This applies to games servers for online play, and file sharing servers such as kazaa. Is there any reason you can think of for why this is happening to me?

Have you checked your internet connection? do you get any error messages ,when you upgraded did you set yourself up as an administator as this can stop you using certain sites? I am not sure if this is the answer but it can't hurt to look in to this

I solved the problem. I'm not quite sure how, but after i installed a firewall, it asked me whether to give access to certain programs such as the computer games i want to play online. I granted access and then everything worked OK. The one thing that still won't work is KaZaa, but this might be a common problem? Anyone with any further sugestions please reply. I have actually set myslef as moderator (windows did this automatically), will this limit my internet access?

One suggestion - unless you enjoy having a load of spyware broadcasting information out to various net sites without asking first - would be that you replace KaZaa with KaZaa Lite (not connected but a similar product without all the spyware) from a variety of sites including Here.

And another that you get a good spyware removal tool like Ad-aware and allow it to purge all the junk you will already have picked up.
