Installed SP2 as TurboTax 2008 required.

Everything OK except when I double-click any existing Word 2003 *.doc only a blank copy of Word opens.

However, if I open Word first and then use file>open from menu the same *.doc will open fine.

Tried right-click "open with" but it already lists word as the application that will open *.doc.

    Help

Imagine my surprise when the problem apparently was solved by signing onto the internet and the BBS! Go figure.

Hope you don't mind the laughter on this end:)

Right click on a Word doc and select Open With->Choose MS WORD and make sure the "always use" box is checked.

    Word Problem After XP SP2

Thanks for trying but it didn't help.

There is no app or addon called LaserFiche.

This problem developed only after installing SP2 to Windows XP.

I tried Word>Help>Repair and it asked for the Office SBE 2003 CD which I loaded but the end result was no different.

---additional info---(if not Laserfiche, perhaps something similar????----
Laserfiche: a program that allows scanning of paper documents into a server on a network.

It sure would hurt to zap the Normal.dot file if you don't have a lot of custom settings.

Word 2003 Problem After XP SP2

It looks like deleting normal.dot did the trick!

    Here's Whats In Templates Now:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Kitty Envelope.dot" "C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Kitty.dot" "C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Butterfly Envelope.dot" "C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Butterfly.dot" "C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Floral.dot" "C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\FloralEnvelope.dot"

    Thanks to both of you!
