    My Outlook Express is behaving quite strangely (two or three attempts needed to connect to cable internet or Hotmail mail service - OE seems to hang up after log-in - - Ctrl/Alt/Del needed to force quit it to try again - get 'OE6 not responding' on force quit screen...or...multiple password windows appear on start-up...or...messages get downloaded twice, one right after the other, etc., etc). Would normally look for a Repair OE6 option, but cannot find one. Going to add/delete programs does not seem offer a repair option as it does in IE6 - only delete. Nor can I find a "Detect and Repair" utility as exists under Help pull down menu is in Excel/Word 2000. Am I missing something? Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix or reinstall? Thanks.

    Hi WFC_Exile,

    I'm assuming that you have not changed any configurations in your connection properties and/or Outlook Express options.

    If that's the case, here is what I would do:

    Go to the Windows Update site. Once the page loads, click on "Show Installed Updates ". Scroll down until you find Outlook Express. Check the box to download and install it again. Reboot twice. Try Outlook Express to see if all is okay.
    ==============================================
    If no joy, do this:

    Go to Add/Remove in Control Panel. Select Outlook Express and click the "Remove" button. Once OE is UNinstalled, reboot your machine twice. Go back to Windows Update site, find OE6, download and install it.

    Hopefully, that will get you back in business!

    The repair option is found in two places. OE is integrated with IE. Control panel, add/remove programs. Highlight IE, click add/remove. Option should appear for repair. Or in sytem information via start, programs, etc. Once sytem info window opens, tools, repair IE. The double messages come through Hotmail. I have the same thing occur occasionally. Sometimes a corrupt inbox.dbx. Do a find(if the repair doesnt fix it). inbox.dbx, rename it old. Reboot. MS site for OE help addresses this multiple messages. Post back good or bad.

    Still no joy. I installed IE6, SP1, which was supposed to update Outlook Express 6. I've deleted and reinstalled email accounts for the affected identities - however - the same two of four identities in OE6 are still not working properly - with different, but maybe related, problems.

    The RoadRunner email account just hangs after password entry. It takes five or six force quits to get it to finally connect. The problem is completely solved when I have Outlook remember the password (which I prefer not to do). Then it connects the first time, every time. Forget the password - problem returns.

    Second problem - The Hotmail account produces two password log in boxes upon launch asking for the password twice, as though it were logging in to two separate services. Deleted the account, reinstalled it - still the same - The work around - same as above - remember the password!

    An interesting thing however - there is a second Hotmail identity and a second RoadRunner identity on this install of Outook - they both work fine without saving the passwords. Aghhhhh! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
